Can’t say I really expected this to ever happen but I’m grateful for my horde of uh ten 3DSes and 2DSes all but one of which I bought new.
I rather don’t like my New 3DS XL, the stylus is too small and in weird spot, it doesn’t feel as good as a regular XL plus the extra buttons and horsepower aren’t really well used. The regular sized New 3DS I picked up used came in worse condition than I expected so I haven’t used it as much but it has all of those problems too.
Somewhat, maybe 20-30% cheaper, usually in worse condition being older. But in my experience I don’t think the downgrade in console is worth the discount.
I might as well post some cover plates, including some Aliexpress ones if anyone’s interested.
First up all I have for the white console right now is the first draft of my Sega Mark IIIDS. I just made up a transparent sticker for some Aliexpress plain white plates.
Here are the Aliexpress Splatoon plates which are pretty decent. I guess it’s kind of a contemporary Splatoon 3 theme with these colours vs the original ones which are the Splatoon 1 motif.
The problem is no Aliexpress plates have printing on the sides, which is fine if there’s a solid white or black on the sides as it blends okay, but these ones are printed on grey plastic so it just looks unfinished.
Speaking of stopped shipping to the US, I got an order in a few days ago that arrived today via DHL from suruga-ya. Three Dreamcast and three Saturn games. Spent more than I often do because they were offering discounts the more you spent and free shipping on top of that.
It was clearly a successful sale as things on my wishlist and even in my cart before I ordered were going out of stock within hours. I suppose I wasn’t the only one trying to beat the Trump Idiot Deadline
I ordered twice in August because of the stupidity approaching.
After reading this review I thought I’d better play New Super Mario Bros 2. The author makes a good point that the lack of a visual refresh will probably dictate how it’s perceived and that’s exactly what happened. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo 3DS) Review | Negative World Nintendo
But I want the DLC and the only version of the game to include it is New Super Mario Bros 2 Special Edition (Gold Edition in the US) which was preinstalled on select 2DS and 3DS XL systems…
…so I bought a 2DS. I’ll give it a shot on there - never used a 2DS before! But I am thinking about transferring it to my N3DS in the long run. Just trying to figure out if there’s a way to actually do that and merge or move content from one system to another like you could on DSi. The following rules apply for 3DS system transfers:
The target device is wiped and replaced with the source device data
If the target device has an NNID attached to it, the system transfer cannot be made
So I think in order to get NSMB 2 SE off the 2DS and onto my main 3DS I’ll need three 3DSes: The 2DS with NSMB SE on it, a clean New 3DS XL, and my current main New 3DS which has game downloads, purchases, and data going back to launch day in 2011. Then I think I can perform the following steps:
2DS system transfer to spare third unused N3DS XL without NNID
Spare third system inherits NSMB 2 SE
Main N3DS system transfer to third N3DS XL without NNID
I think that should wipe the spare/third N3DS XL and replace and merge the contents with my main N3DS, right? So I end up with my main N3DS with NSMB 2 SE added to its eShop account/NNID.
I mean, given you legitimately own the game via the 2DS, it would be simplest to erase the console with the pre-installed game and then use homebrew to put it on your desired system? You could possibly even rip the actual copy you own and avoid any piracy?
Related point, I think I’m on a roll here as well, I saw this for AU $100 so bought it for my son, and will probably give it to him at Christmas or his fifth birthday.
I was going to walk him through GBA, DS upward, but it would be expensive and risky for little kids with the hinges. And this plays DS natively, and GBA games with some hacking.
His current rig is a Game Boy Pocket (customised with buttons and trim of his colour choice!) with a few Japanese games I grabbed for ultra cheap on ebay.
My n3ds arrived yesterday! Unfortunately my screen protectors aren’t coming until next week so it’ll be a slow burn lol. Overall, I’m very pleased with the condition and the form factor compared to my old 3ds XL. I’m not home or I would grab some pics.
I’m going to get CFW up and running so I can play US games to test it out more as I don’t have any Japanese games. Any reason to deviate from the hacks guide that installs boot9strap and Luma3DS?
