RGB HIGH SCORE BATTLE #47!

Site is updated! Here’s our current battle details:

BATTLE #47
Game: Steel Empire
Platform(s): Genesis & Mega Drive
Challenge Type: High Score
Game Details: Full Game
When: Apr 15th - May 14th, 2022
Chosen By: raskulous

I’ve updated the website with the new game, man the periscopes!

Good luck everyone, please submit your scores via screenshot or video by replying directly to this post!

RULES

  1. Competitions last two weeks, close on Sunday night @ midnight.
  2. Post screenshots in this thread as proof.
  3. The winner from the previous week chooses the next game to play.
  4. You cannot choose twice in a row. 2nd place will choose if someone wins two weeks in a row.
  5. If there’s a tie, the person that submitted the high score first gets to choose.
  6. Games must be high score compatible (think “arcade style scores” like Pac-Man, or Spy Hunter, not Super Mario).
  7. Emulation is okay (MAME is often the best for high scores).
  8. No save state manipulation (pausing to take a break is fine though).
  9. Submit scores as soon as you get them! To keep the competition rolling and fair, do not hold on until the last moment to submit.

Points will be awarded for the entrants, based on the position finished for the week. This is to encourage wider participation, and the points will be posted each week as well as on the website.

POSITION POINTS AWARDED
1st: 10 points
2nd: 7 points
3rd: 5 points
4th: 3 points
5th: 2 points
Any honest attempt: 1 point

Overall, we should keep it simple. This is just a good time, not a crazy official high score competition! Game plays should ideally be short and fun so people that can’t invest hours into this can still compete. Obviously we are working on a trust based system here, so don’t ruin it for the others!

Here’s a simple website I made to keep track of the competition.

Awesome! Can’t wait to crack this often overlooked gem open again.

I had a few goes over my lunchbreak and boy this game is much harder than I remember! It really goes hard from early on.

Also you better be quick with your camera/screenshot button if you’re not breaking a million points on your run, I couldn’t get a shot of my sub million scores :frowning:

Are we concerned about version with this one? It’s available a lot of places now.

Steam, 3DS, original Genesis/Mega Drive…

I’m not familiar with the scoring enough to comment. Maybe @Suteneko knows?

Nobody clocked a score yet? I still can’t break the one million point barrier to hit the scoreboard so I can take a picture

I thought I had but I couldn’t see my score after the game over screen

I was hoping for clarification on version before running it a little bit. I own the Genesis version.

I think we can just stick with the Genesis version. I think most people here either have a flashcart or can emulate.

I have been playing the Megadrive version.

‘Playing’ feels like a generous term, here. Trying to play, maybe? Phew.

HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DODGE THAT FINAL PATTERN

I think you can pause the game when you die, before the game over screen. Should help!

Nice score! I’m going to play a bit more, will post once I get a decent enough run to break 1mil.

Finally got some time to put in a real attempt… this game is hard!

3,095,800

I managed to get to 6-B, the bullets are so fast on this stage!

Nice! I need to have another few goes… that mid-boss in level 2 is a real killer :frowning:

It’s done! 4,416,300

Interesting the game doesn’t loop, so it’s just three best you can score in one shot.

Slightly unrelated question, but how good (bad?) was the 3DS port? One of those games that I just remembered existed, but with the eShop due to close and all…

I just installed it to check it out.

Really good! The graphics are redone from scratch, and they look great. The game feels a little more punchy, the sounds and explosions are more apparent and they are done really well. The super bomb explosion is like WOAH!

The gameplay is mostly the same, but the enemy patterns and bosses are different. The scoring is completely different, you get like 15k points per stage instead of 300k and up.

Overall, I’m impressed… the 3D effects are nice, the gameplay is done right, and it’s a really good port. Worth checking out if you like the Genesis version.
