RGB High Score Battle! - Week 5: Sega Rally Championship

Site is updated! Here’s our current week details:

WEEK 5
Game: Sega Rally Championship
Platform(s): Arcade, Saturn, PS2, PC
Challenge Type: Race
Game Details: Arcade Mode, One Lap From Stand Still, Celica/Delta Only, Fastest Time
When: Apr 2nd - Apr 8th, 2018

I’ve updated the website with the new game, let’s get racing!

Good luck everyone, please submit your scores via screenshot or video by replying directly to this post!

RULES

  1. Competitions last one week, close on Sunday night @ midnight.
  2. Post screenshots in this thread as proof.
  3. The winner from the previous week chooses the next game to play.
  4. You cannot choose twice in a row. 2nd place will choose if someone wins two weeks in a row.
  5. If there’s a tie, the person that submitted the high score first gets to choose.
  6. Games must be high score compatible (think “arcade style scores” like Pac-Man, or Spy Hunter, not Super Mario).
  7. Emulation is okay (MaME is often the best for high scores).
  8. No save state manipulation (pausing to take a break is fine though).
  9. Submit scores as soon as you get them! To keep the competition rolling and fair, do not hold on until the last moment to submit.

Points will be awarded for the entrants, based on the position finished for the week. This is to encourage wider participation, and the points will be posted each week as well as on the website.

POSITION POINTS AWARDED
1st: 10 points
2nd: 7 points
3rd: 5 points
4th: 3 points
5th: 2 points
Any honest attempt: 1 point

Overall, we should keep it simple. This is just a good time, not a crazy official high score competition! Game plays should ideally be short and fun so people that can’t invest hours into this can still compete. Obviously we are working on a trust based system here, so don’t ruin it for the others!

Here’s a simple website I made to keep track of the competition.

Let’s try that

Nice, I assume you’re the highlighted time? DAM

yep. Your time is highlighted at the end of a race.

So this is just the first three tracks and not the fourth that you get with a fast enough time?

the fourth race is a bonus and doesn’t count in your total, final time

Gotcha. Good to know. I will definitely be in this one!

Sorry but I’m not clear here but, admittedly, I am not at all familiar with this game. Is this from any course or all courses?

Haha, game over yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaah-ah.

Yeah it’s Championship, not practice.

Finally managed to beat all three stages. The game over voice made me smile every time. Corny yet just pure 90s retro awesome.

Page updated.

Looks like the PS2 version of this is JP only and pretty expensive. Am I missing a cheaper NA release?

It was sold exclusively in Japan with SEGA Rally 2006

What’s the consensus on that version? I have a region-free test PS2 and only one game from another territory, so I would like to make more use of that capability. And I like racing games.

Most faithful arcade port, so I read. But you’re missing out on the original Saturn stuff, like the time attack, ghosts, etc.

For what it’s worth, I plan on playing it on the PC. I was able to find it online without much issue.

I haven’t tried running it yet, so it remains to be seen if I can get a 1997 release running on a modern system… But I think it will be no problem.

I’ll report back with my results (hopefully tonight if I find the time).

Man I completely missed out on the last 2. 1 week isn’t enough time for me!

Haven’t played this one in awhile, but after several attempts.
