WEEK 59 & 60 Game: Metroid Prime Pinball Platform(s): DS Challenge Type: High Score Game Details: Single Mission, Tallon Overworld, Normal difficulty, Highest Score When: Oct 26th - Nov 8th, 2020 Chosen By: androgyne
I’ve updated the website with the new game, let’s get tilting!
Good luck everyone, please submit your scores via screenshot or video by replying directly to this post!
RULES
Competitions last two weeks, close on Sunday night @ midnight.
Post screenshots in this thread as proof.
The winner from the previous week chooses the next game to play.
You cannot choose twice in a row. 2nd place will choose if someone wins two weeks in a row.
If there’s a tie, the person that submitted the high score first gets to choose.
Games must be high score compatible (think “arcade style scores” like Pac-Man, or Spy Hunter, not Super Mario).
Emulation is okay (MAME is often the best for high scores).
No save state manipulation (pausing to take a break is fine though).
Submit scores as soon as you get them! To keep the competition rolling and fair, do not hold on until the last moment to submit.
Points will be awarded for the entrants, based on the position finished for the week. This is to encourage wider participation, and the points will be posted each week as well as on the website.

Overall, we should keep it simple. This is just a good time, not a crazy official high score competition! Game plays should ideally be short and fun so people that can’t invest hours into this can still compete. Obviously we are working on a trust based system here, so don’t ruin it for the others!
Yeah it’s great. I haven’t put more than 5 minutes into it, so I’m a little confused about some of what is going on. There seems to be lots of little bonus things, and a couple mini-games that you can trigger on this board.
I tried it out for the first time as well. A lot going on, I’m not a huge pinball fan but it’s pretty fun! The mini/bonus game with hitting R or L have me “dog at computer no idea what I’m doing.jpg” rtfm I guess. Music is really good, very Metroid…which is timely because my purchase of Metroid Samus Returns is scheduled to be delivered today!
Biggest score comes from end of ball bonus. To get the best bonus you have to have defeated a lot of enemies in the various minigames (so the longer you play the better chance you’ll have) and raised the multiplier to 10x max, by rolling over the 2 “x” shaped buttons in pairs on the top left of the table. The flippers alternate the 2 “x” buttons to help with this.
Also in the same area, the bumpers raise the jackpot. You get jackpot easiest by triggering multiball and shooting ramps with arrows. To trigger multiball, you want to aim for Samus’ ship a few times, then it will light up, and then a ball will be locked. Lock 3 for multiball.
For the wall jump section … it’s just a little precise I think. You only have to press R to start, L when she hits the other wall, then R on the next, and so on until you get to the top.
For the mini games… I have the most trouble with the Triclops! They always seem to grab and throw you straight down the hole. So you really have to avoid their mouth, try laying a bomb with B. And also try not to ricochet straight off them (also an issue with the Metroids).
For the one where Samus starts shooting at bugs, you can fire missiles with X if it gets hectic.
If anyone has any questions post them and i’ll do my best to answer!
I really don’t want to be that jerk who chose a game specifically so he’d win, but i beat my top score already lol. Honestly though, I think this is still beatable even for newcomers with some practice.
I just want more people to experience the game! Multiplayer is actually really fun as well, it’s kind of similar to the battle royale tetris/mario games on switch atm, in that you can send metroids to the other players screens to hassle them. Give it a go if you have a chance!
Not bad for a decade plus gap between games. I’ve played a lot more pinball since I bought this one, but I don’t think this table was where I spent most of my time. Great suggestion on a game that didn’t get much attention
I figured out through Desmume how to add a gap so now the top play field lines up better with the bottom play field. I am starting to understand how the minigames work now. I hope I have enough time to give a few more tries.
Which one are you having trouble with? The burrower one can be a bit tricky, you have to roll over them once to get them to appear, then a second time to kill them. The time before they go back underground gets faster on level 2 and 3!
After like 3 runs if sub 2 million scores, I finally got a good one. This is my last submission. I love pinball and this was a really good find. Thanks!
How does everyone feel about the original Q*Bert on MAME? I’ve only ever played the Coleco Vision version, but I think MAME would be much easier to do than getting Coleco running.
