Thanks for keeping the lights on! This place is an invaluable resource for me and I’m sure some others. I appreciate how helpful everyone is here. It’s a quality no judgement zone for retro.
Thanks for all the memories! This is particularly true during the pandemic RGB and the community really was a place of solace during a tough time, one where games were at least one constant amidst everything else going on.
It’s honestly hard to believe it’s been eight years since I joined, and I’ve had a blast discussing all sorts of games, new and old, collecting, and even trips to Japan. The best thing is the community was always free from viral social media trends or attention grabbing drama. The focus was always on the quality of conversation, which I much appreciate.
I’m really happy to hear Matt has arranged to take on hosting, that’s very kind and it’ll be good that the archive of content remains online. RGB does seem to be the source used to answer a lot of questions about content posted here via Google (and even Google Gemini results), so that knowledge base remaining on the open web would be a very good thing.
At the same time I really need to rethink my approach to posting, which has become very slack in the past couple of years, much to my own embarrassment. I must admit that I’ve become apathetic about posting on forums following the rise of AI LLMs scraping the web.
Knowing that what I put out there will be slurped up by a LLM and spat out as an answer that doesn’t credit neither RGB or the community is really disparaging. But at the same time I’ve noticed that at least Google Gemini does seem to link back to a lot of RGB threads (see screenshot) so maybe I’m just overthinking things.
Maybe we should be posting here to establish the forum/community as an authority on retro gaming - something that even the discord will never do as discord is closed off to the open web.
Curious to hear your thoughts on this!
Hey @matt if you’re fixing things up can you take the opportunity to set up a redirect on the retrogameboards.com hostname to www.retrogameboards.com? This has tripped me up more than a few times. ![]()
Sure will. Still a bit to do before we can transfer the domain
Sad to hear the board is going away. While it was never the most busy of places, you could always expect civil replies and a warm community. Thanks for keeping the board alive as long as you did.
Looks like Matt is keeping it alive ![]()
Nice!
More progress this past week.
Will keep you all informed
I was sad to read the OP but relieved that it appears Matt will be helping keep this community alive. Thank you so much @Peltz for all you have done and thank you @matt for volunteering. I also was unaware of the discord server so just in case things fall through somehow could I kindly ask that somebody DM me and invite link to the discord. Thanks again
