Hang on, thanks to your comment I just discovered that the screenshot I used from UVlist.net (Universal Videogame List) is supposedly from the arcade version, while in actuality it seems to be a Mega Drive screenshot!
This was also on the SNES as Hyper V-Ball, which was the version I played. It’s a somewhat slow and steady game, more like Wii Tennis than fast and frantic like Windjammers.
SNES version has robot teams in it with crazy gameplay changes to spice things up a bit, and a bunch of special moves - I seem to remember lightning!? Can’t speak for the other versions.
Today I was wondering if the full list of games featured on Atari’s 50th Anniversary Collection had been revealed yet, so I did a quick Google search. I didn’t expect to find any answers, but I’m glad to say I was wrong!
Some Dutch gameshop posted the full list on their website:
What a lovely surprise! Good to know someone at Inin/United Games/Strictly Limited has opened conversations with Mitchell. Hopefully they can acquire the licenses for more of their back catalogue.
Shame the article is basically based off a tweet - Konami aren’t involved with this release. They typical share their TGS booth with other publishers, of which one is Inin. Traditionally all Falcom games at TGS have been at the Konami booth, for instance.
Yeah, I also thought the mention of Konami sounded rather iffy. Usually I try to include the names of publishers in my posts about retro re-releases, but this time I refrained from that and just posted a link to the article instead.
Still, great news all the same that this arcade gem is finally heading to consoles!
Another interesting announcement: steampunk shoot 'em up Steel Empire is heading to Nintendo Switch! Apparently, it’s based on the 3DS version that was released in 2014.
No, I don’t think there has been any mention of a physical release for either game. It could still happen of course, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
