Retro AV |OT| RGB, CRTs, Upscalers, and more

I think the 2X Pro has a simple scanline filter which is really all you need at 480p; just blank out every other line, and your monitor’s own mask will do the rest. The fancier models basically offer mask recreation which you don’t need since you’re already using a CRT :stuck_out_tongue:

And if you have a Mister, it already handles that with its “scan double” filter. If you’re using PC, there’s a wealth of shaders out there with the “interlacing” shader of Retroarch basically also doing just that

Thank you! Have you had good luck funding CRT computer monitors in goid condition for a good price?

It’s been a while since I’ve checked, but they’re pretty affordable if you can find them. it depends on area. even the high end models don’t go for much more than $100 in my experience

One more thing. I’ve never seen a console output RGB to a nice scaler on a nice OLED with CRT filters. Is there a way to see that in person that you know of?

There’s the Retrotink Discord where people post their screenshots

I don’t have an OLED but here’s an example of the Dreamcast running via scart to a Retrotink

Thank you so much! I have a lot to think about now, but you’ve been so nice and helpful!

Ok, so I’ve been doing sone research on what options are available. I found this BVM. Does it look good? Also, is that a fair price?

I’ve been out of CRT shopping for quite some time, but that seems like a reasonable price. Being listed for 24 weeks is a little sus tho, especially in Portland. I’m in the Seattle area, good stuff doesn’t sit for sale very long, at least not in the past.

Do the other pictures show the hour count? Geometry seems ok from that image, minor pin amp that could be adjusted - doubtful it would be noticeable in gameplay.

I asked if it’s still available. He hasn’t gotten back yet. Once he does I will ask about the power on time. I knew that 24 weeks was a red flag, but I don’t think there’s harm in messaging.

Agreed, no harm in messaging. It seems like maybe an ad that sold, but they didn’t bother to take it down. Good luck though!

Thanks! I also found this listing. Does it look good?

The seller is open to lowering the price by at least $100

Hey i have a question
I know for a fact my speakers are magnetically shielded, but they cause a weird line of interference on my TV whenever they are plugged in. Here’s a video:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/LZTeqQPyC9RURNfZ8
Does anyone know how to fix this or what could be causing it?

Are they plugged in to the same plug/circuit/surge protector? If possible, plug them into plugs that are on different breakers to see if it’s different (understandably not simple to accomplish).

Are any of the wiring touching each other or touching the other device?

…armchair troubleshooting here, could be many reasons, wrap the speakers in foil? lol

They are plugged into the same surge protector, but i don’t think the video cables are touching. Ill try the things you suggested. Thanks! I’ll get back in a second.

Ok I tried plugging the cable into another room with a big extension cable and thwre was no noise. Is there a way to have a similar thing but without the giant extension cable?

I fixed it for anyone wondering. I tried using a different power supply with the speakers (likely a better quality power supply) and the noise was gone! I didn’t even have to plug the speaker power into a separate breaker!
