Buying Import Games Online

VAT needs a reduction at this point.

The UK was subjected to a minimum taxation rate by the EU, so maybe to help boost the economy after Brexit finally happens the first thing that should be done it to reduce VAT back to at least 17%.

Sadly though I’m not naive enough to think this will actually happen.

Welcome to the crappy club tbh… :sleepy:

Check out all of these eBay sellers in Japan trying to sell the same item. I guess it was listed in Mercari or something.

Weird when sellers set these massive above market prices.

That is actually the market price for a boxed copy.

I paid ~£120 ($150) for my boxes copy in Dec 2017 and that was the lowest I’d been able to find in many months of watching as prices slowly creeped up. I was able to use a 20% eBay coupon to take the sting out.

Prices still creeping up since.

I thought you were implying it was overpriced, but sellers were all listing for that and holding.

Which you do see. Like search for any rare Japanese Mega Drive title, and there will be 5+ sellers with it listed at double what any have sold for.

Sure, that wasn’t my point.

I was just looking at the same reused pictures across multiple listings which means an item has been listed on Mercari/Auctions/etc and eBay sellers are being cheeky and selling something they don’t have in their posession and will try to buy it after they sell their listing, or cancel if it’s already been sold. “Just in time” reselling.

Regarding this specific game, I’ve watched it over many years before and after buying my copy and sold prices of boxed Japanese version have been north of £100 for all that time. As I understand it the Japanese Tengen games are highly sought after.

Ah, you meant literally the same item lol

Used FROMJAPAN for the first time. No complaints! It’s great that their website searches all shops at once.

Actually their iOS app requires repeated log in.

No Mercari support, that’s exclusive to Buyee.

DHL shipping lookup is broken for the vast majority of UK postcodes. So I had to ship using FedEx. No import duty!

Now this is the sort of silly you were referring to @D.Lo

Cart only for 600USD :man_facepalming:

Wtf… is that a rare variant or something? It should be like $25…

Of course it’s not a rare variant. The box and manual is the valuable thing. The carts are common. The seller must be a Joker.

Interestingly, the Japanese cart was distributed around the world in some non-Japanese boxes. No idea why.

But… It’s just the cart! Crazy people.

So I’m currently using HOYOYO, despite their website being appalling, for a few reasons:

  1. they do Mercari! and they will negotiate lower/best prices for you! Every single time I get money off the Mercari asking price. For zero effort.
  2. They have some nice coupons/offers, example: this month they are waiving fees for all YAJ purchases, no limits.
  3. Their shipping is substantially cheaper than FromJapan and Buyee, using the same provider FedEx.

I make their website run better by using a VPN that puts my connection in Asia, and I do my searching through FromJapan (which searches multiple services at once) and Mercari app, and then just add the items manually to HOYOYO.
