OG Xbox Appreciation: Life is Short, Play More (Across Three Generations of Xbox)

Awesome thanks… I was looking for the ones that plug into the controller itself, in the memory card slot. Probably why I couldn’t find one… this looks much better.

Woah. Thanks guys. I guess I need to find out why the mod isn’t working on my crystal

If anyone’s interested I found a couple NIB xbox controllers on Amazon Japan for reasonable prices (~$30 USD + shipping) that ship internationally.

First two items here for 3400 and 3500 yen:

They’re listed as “collectable, like new” condition because the boxes have some damage but the controllers themselves are new, unopened product.

As mentioned earlier, they’re slightly different from S controllers, most notably the shorter cord, but otherwise they’re a great way to get good condition Xbox controllers.

Box is in perfect condition as far as I can tell but it looks like the plastic on the analogs has aged a bit. Hopefully just comes off with a wipe.

I really like the green jewel on the Japanese S, compared to the black jewel on the regular S. Weird about the plastic on the thumb sticks.

I recently handled my original Xbox Live headset from the OG Xbox Live days for the first time in many years and the foam on the ear piece and mic disintegrated into a black dust as soon as I touched them. It was kinda trippy…lol

Nice timing on the kitty yawns!

Xbox is poison to cats. Little fur ball is in agony!

Funny, I made this photo 7 years ago. Cats are so bored of these Xbox controllers…

My collection. Bought my Xbox at launch here in Europe, sadly I need to check her out because she made a strange fan-y noise. So, I mostly play on Xbox 360/One.

Also, you see that OutRun2006, there? I bought it for 7.99€ on Play.com in 2007.

Nice collection. Coast to coast is way too pricey for me to bother with these days. I’m just sticking to my Outrun 2 copy. 7.99 is a steal.

You got most of the great games from the Xbox library. Is there anything else you are trying to get?

Also, what’s the game next to Futurama?

Shikigami no Shiro on the left, NBA 2k3 on the right.

I really would like A LOT OF TITLES, I still lack the Fatal Frames, many ither Konami and Capcom games, etc… Conker Live & Reloaded, many Star Wars games, etc…

Oh man, you need those Star Wars games, this was the best Gen for them!

And most of them are playable on Xbox One, in 960p/1920p and even 60fps! Lately they even added for free the DLCs which aren’t available since 2010.

Oh wow, that’s pretty sweet actually, I should give them a try on my Xbox One.

What?! Wait, I didn’t see the KotOR DLC in my game…

Edit: Holly shit! It was updated with the DLC, apparently.

You telling me I need to replay KotOR 1 so that I may have the full featured game in glorious 4k res again? (You haven’t) Well, you don’t have to tell me twice.

Got this the other day:

Here are some games I tested it with:

And now for some 720p games:

Overall these are definitely the best Xbox component cables I have used. I would test out more games as well.

My xbox isn’t turning on. No lights, no nothing.

Took it apart, found that the fan tries to spin a little bit but nothing else wants to show signs of life.

Found I’ve got a bunch of bulging 3300uf caps around the ATX power connector. I always assumed 1.6 xboxes were immune to bad caps but I guess not! Ordered some new ones so hopefully that’s it.

Wow man that sucks, hope everything goes well for you.

It was working just fine a month ago! I played a bit of Halo 1 after finishing Reach on PC.

Overall, it really feels like Xbox and Xbox 360 hardware just wasn’t designed to stand up to many years of usage. I’ve had nothing but bad luck over the past few years trying to keep working Xbox legacy hardware in my setup. I have not had similar issues with other systems sans the Virtual Boy.
