Retro AV |OT| RGB, CRTs, Upscalers, and more

Can’t you just make requests with her now?

can you? i emailed her & never heard back

I was thinking of this:

If they aren’t coming up “in stock” it might mean she doesn’t have the parts on hand.

yeah, you’re right…damn. anyone suggest a cable of comparable quality? again it’s for an AES (JP) being used on a SCART to component converter, fed to a CRT.
i have a cable i bought from her years back but im wondering if it was just meant for XRGB use…colors are off (im getting the system modded soon) and the audio part doesnt seem to work

Though it doesn’t look like they have the one to get Stereo out of an AES any more.

That’s odd, thank god I have a Sync Strike to get audio out of it.

Well… I finally got my SNES 1-chip and the difference is pretty incredible. I have to say, it really really makes the games look so much better. I got accustomed to the softness over the decades and thought that was what SNES games should look like. But really, it’s just horizontal bleed that should never have been there.

This looks so clear and there’s no faint vertical line going down the center like there was on my old unit. The 1-chip really does SNES games so much more justice. It makes games look exactly how you’d expect. Crisp, effortlessly good looking, and clean.

The output from the other unit just looks muddy and wrong now. I didn’t realize just how much detail was being smoothed out.

Apparently Voultar might be looking into improving the picture of non 1-chip consoles, hopefully he can succeed where others haven’t.

Sounds like you’re really happy with your purchase!

That isn’t a 1-chip thing since they can also get it. Grats on getting one that didn’t need anything done to it to remove it though.

It may have been removed by the prior owner. I can tell it was taken care of by an enthusiast considering there’s not an ounce of yellow of the chassis, possibly due to some retrobright or other restorative process.

Yep. It was actually worth it.

Only a few ways to do it and most common now is the rgb bypass amp. Could tell from opening it up but either way you got a really good system. Notice if you have any ghosting? That is the only problem I have with my SNES and it bugs the heck out of me.

Where would ghosting be noticeable? What games/scenes?

The life bar in Megaman X on the snow stage is one of the easiest examples.

I haven’t done an RGB bypass but I did replace C11 for the ghosting fix when I had my console recapped, looks immaculate at line 5x on the OSSC.

Like @Listai said, the snow stage in Megaman X. First level of the Donut plains in Mario World works as well, just run around and fly a bit. Same with Nimbus Land in Mario RPG.

Has anyone ordered a Kaico OSSC? I know Voultar looked at it and said the pcb looked good.

OSSC Open Source Scan Converter 1.6 with SCART Component VGA to HDMI for Retro Gaming - Kaico Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QF95QP3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_iJBvDbN4BJX47

Coury from MLiG posted on their discord that he got one and checked it out, and that its all the same chips and build quality as the VGP OSSC. So its a nice US shipped alternative to the VGP one.

Sounds like a good buy. Thanks!

I fear my pc crt has maybe a year left at best. I’m already pushing the ossc’s green line to near 200 in order to prevent black crush being an issue.
