All these new scalers and I’m still happily trucking with the Framemeister lol.
I’d hesitate hard to pay 500 euros for a 5x if I had the OSSC already. The 5x is the better scaler, imo, and you may have more disposable income to play with, but if you’re looking for advice I’d try and get the most out of the OSSC then upgrade to the Tink 4K.
That’s a much bigger jump in tech/capability. Probably a lot more money, too, but more worth it alongside what is already a great scaler. The OSSC could be put on bedroom/secondary setup duty.
@akumagorath - Yep, I’m aware of all that and agree about bob deinterlacing + scanlines on 480i content looking fine. Point is, it’s simply unusable on an IPS screen, as severe flickering generates temporary image retention even with strong post-proc. artifacts enabled. Playing Ridge Racer V for 5 minutes - just to name the first game on top of my head - burns in the whole UI in a way that effectively prevents from doing anything else than just turning off the monitor.
@Bozo_Cyborg - That’s what I’ll end up doing most likely. I’ve been on the edge for the longest time, but always failed to pull the trigger.
If you primarily want motion adaptive deinterlacing over everything else and would like to save a lot of money, you could chain a GBS control into the OSSC so long as you can make room for an extra device, that is what I currently do
in that case I’d definitely wait for the RT4K. Mike Chi seems to be making great headway on it. the OSSC Pro seems to be a bit of a myth in comparison
@Abwezi - Thank you, I’ll look into it!
@akumagorath - 100% agreed. I tried to keep up on shmups forums for a while, but then it came to a point where I just felt like, it’s all good folks, please wake me up in 26 years when we’re actually talking about something tangible. Is it known when the RT4K will get released?
I haven’t seen a release date mentioned but following his progress on Twitter, I would make the completely uneducated guess of within a year
actually, turns out I was super pessimistic
Hopefully that pleasant surprise is quite pleasant indeed!
looks awesome
I’m so stoked for this thing. Been waiting for a 4K scaler forever.
even though I don’t really play my retro games on my 4K TV anymore, it’d be worth getting now for the future, because that day will eventually come and I don’t see anyone but Mike Chi himself topping this or the need to even attempt to
I think 4K is right on the edge of human perceptibility/readability, so whenever the motion clarity issues of LCDs is solved, this device will truly shine
The idea of the device is wonderful. The cost is somerhing else entirely.
John Linneman showing off some on Twitter (I can’t call it X because I haven’t updated yet lol)

Well, things seem to have moved on real fast!
I guess I’ll wait and see, while I keep my fingers crossed for the final price. Getting it here from the US isn’t gonna be fun.
Oh wait… the new scalar works on upscaling HD signals to 4k? Not just SD to 4k?
That’s huge. I’ll need to buy it.
I’m still on a 1080p TV, but I’m all kinds of giggity for this
PixelFX Morph 4K Announcement Tweet
Looks like an interesting angle to push the synergy with other products like their GEM products or the OSSC, whereas the TINK4K is gunning for “end all, be all” status.
They mention Extron control via the serial port. That would be very useful for anyone with a Crosspoint! Hopefully that sort of thing is made open source and usable outside the scalers. I know I’d love a remote option!
seems like a great time to be a retro gamer
For real.
