Retro AV |OT| RGB, CRTs, Upscalers, and more

Me being myself here, and absolutely sticking up 100% with my propositions… I just ordered a 5x Pro from RT website.
Hope the customs won’t hit me too hard… Still, I should end up spending way less than grabbing one on EU eBay. To be honest, I doubt I’ll ever be an early adopter of the RT4K, and dusting off my OSSC the past couple of days only cemented my plan to upgrade to something better asap.

Stupid question, for all the RT5xPro owners here, as I don’t seem to find an answer anywhere. What kind of power supply does it require, if one won’t be able to connect the device directly to the monitor via the included USB cable?

Micro usb, at least 1A:

  1. Use a high-quality USB power source capable of supplying at least 1 A of current to your RT5X. Low quality USB power supplies may result in device malfunction and/or video noise. It is also important to use a good quality USB cable. Poorly manufactured cables drop voltage under high currents, which may result in video noise and device malfunction.

Pixel Morph sounds like it could be a better deal if all you want is one feature like pure HDMI scaling. I’m hopeful, however, that the Retrotink 4k isn’t really $1000 in the end.

Thank you, and bookmarked the page.

Just in case anyone may wish to know, I ordered my RT5x from Mike Chi’s website on 05/08 and last night I received a DHL notification that my order will be delivered on 11/08.
I had to add 81 euros for customs duties/fees to Italy, which was honestly less than what I anticipated. Pleasant surprise, I could pay in advance through DHL Express website, via PayPal.

Apparently, the latest brand new device that has been sold on ebay went out (from a German seller) for 599 + 75 euros. The final amount for me was a little shy of 450 euros.

Pretty excited to receive my Retrotink 5x and do some testing!

Sounds like he ships immediately rather than taking your cash for months then finally shipping. That’s good to hear.

just a heads up, there’s somewhat of a Terraonion situation developing with Pixel FX who seem to be taking unwarranted pot shots at Mike Chi and his integrity etc lately

how adult

Ugly stuff

Mike Chi all the way. If it wasn’t for him, Pixel FX wouldn’t be doing what they’re doing now.

That sucks. You have think it will be an inferior device. Haven’t those guys kind of come out of nowhere?

Not really, they did the DC Digital, N64 Digital and stuff like that and those products aren’t bad but this Twitter drama is definitely a bad look. Their upcoming products also seem promising but unappealing tbh with immature behavior like this.

Exactly.
No matter if they’re right or wrong, when someone comes out like that, makes me instinctively lean towards the attacked part, especially when it has done nothing but good things for the community, so far.

Btw, I’ve receive my RT5x on 10/08 (a couple of days earlier than expected) and I plan to crack on it the whole weekend, starting from tonight.

Wow, interesting!

Ugh, as someone who liked PixelFX’s products this sucks. Don’t want to support people that aren’t a net-positive for the community. Dan always seemed like a cool guy. Surprising to see this happen.

I’m not trying to make excuses, but I wonder if there’s reason for Dan’s change? Some external factor. Like, has anybody asked if he’s ok?

That’s a good point. I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt. It definitely seems out of character for him.

seems like this isn’t new behavior, just saw this tweet on my feed
