Wow I have Raw Danger. I need to put prices on my collection.
My email archive tells me I paid $11.98 + $7.95 in Feb 2008. Notable that mine is the US NTSC import.

Soul Hackers sealed goes for over a hundred € in Europe. I have my copy still sealed and kinda don’t want to open it. It’s regularly on sale for small money on the eshop so I may just wait and grab it digitally.
Good thing I loved the 3DS and have most games that I want already anyway because some of those prices are already way too high.
I regret not getting that for a fifth of the price seven years ago! I’m still surprised by how expensive Devi Survivor 2 Record Breaker is, since NISA’s European distributor Reef Entertainment had it on clearance for a long time on eBay.
I’m glad you brought this up - it’s another one of those late 505 Games releases which was hard to find in certain European territories. Yggdra Union on GBA is another one which received a release primarily in 505’s home country, Italy.
Congrats for finding that copy of Raw Danger for 55, ever since I finished Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter that’s been next on my list of games with a global time limit attached. Let us know how the PAL conversion is - it’s the only thing that’s put me off paying crazy money for it (I would have forked out 55 though!)
I feel like it’s a wonderful time to still collect 3ds, Xbox, 360 and PS3 titles. Heck there’s plenty of Wii stuff that is probably worth grabbing on the cheap right now. If there’s stuff you like or are interested from on those consoles they’ll probably rise in the next 5-7 years as people who grew up on them will suddenly have disposable income.
You’re absolutely right. I’m keeping an eye out for 360 titles to flesh out my collection. Picked up my first ps3 titles, and I’ve also picked up some psp titles and an extra psp 1001 this week.
Definitely… my dad is always trawling second hand stores and the most he grabs for me lately for $2 a pop are 360 and PS3 games. If they’re half decent I always get him to pick them up even if they’re dupes because I feel like $2 is too good to pass up.
I love /sarcasm people who have garage or estate sales and legit try to turn a huge profit on them. I always thought the point was to get rid of stuff and maybe making a small amount of money is a bonus.
Did you offer $250?
That’s all there is now. Either “I know what I got” people or someone showed up at dawn/3 hours before listed time and walked away with everything for a low price and already has them listed online. Fuck I hate all my hobbies.
Been that way for a long time.
You aren’t wrong. :c
There are some good prices to be had even now. I’ve been focusing more on jewel-case-only 90s PC games. Stuff that got re-released a lot or things for Mac you can get for extremely cheap, even new-old-stock. Nobody cares or is paying attention to this stuff, kinda hope they never do.
Aside from that there are still good prices on common DS/3DS/Wii and some PS2 games new-old-stock. That’s not going to last forever
You have to be buying the stuff that’s end of life but not classic yet to get the most bang for your retro buck. PS2 is still in that category. Xbox too (although there’s not much there to begin with realistically…). Gamecube is already going up.
Xbox 360/PS3/Wii/Wii U are your sweet spots for super cheap right now that eventually will get super expensive. Those of us who deal in the prior gens don’t look at those systems with any nostalgic value, but you can be sure there are a lot of teens/20 somethings who are poised to track down their old games from that era soon enough.
Most of my recent purchases have been cheap Wii games that I have never played before.
I ended up with a free Wii last year and dived into the library for the first time and have been really enjoying the system. There are loads of great games with non of the waggle nonsense that put me off the system in the first place.
PS2 and OG XBOX prices are already rising substancially for sure though.
Recommended Wii games?
PS2/Gamecube/Xbox/Dreamcast really are rising rapidly already. Wii/PS3/X360/PSP are still very cheap. I’ve been buying tons lately for those platforms and Wii really is extremely underrated console due to the controls and shovelware. DS games are already getting very pricey though, lucky to have most games that I want for it.
Will be interesting to see if the need for updates for the PS3 and Xbox360 will affect the prices in the future and will there be any other solution besides modding or having every patch installed on your old machines that could break.
Where to start?
What genres or styles are you into?
Well how about anything you’ve found that you consider a surprise or hidden gem - especially ones without waggle, as you mentioned. I have the console and a number of games and am familiar with the big games. Just curious what you have stumbled upon…
EDIT: Whoops, thought I was replying to @Suteneko. Curious about any pleasant surprises as a new collector on the platform.
Don’t overlook Opoona and GTI Club - managed to finish them both during lockdown and I regret passing over them for years.
Opoona in particular is the very definition of an unmarketable game that I hope more folk check out.
Happy to come up with some more recommendations over at the Wii thread?
I don’t think I have stumbled upon anything that I’d consider a hidden gem. Everything I have picked up thus far is pretty much what I’d expect most of us on here to be interested in already and widely known about.
After all I really do try to only buy games that I have an interest in to begin withand experiment very little now days.
