Rushing Beat Shura is the third game in Jaleco’s Rushing Beat series (Rival Turf and Brawl Brothers) and was released at the end oof 1993. It was OK.
What was not OK is that Jaleco USA, in characteristic fashion, completely butchered the English translation when it released it as “The Peacekeepers” in 1994, throwing out pretty much the entire script for dumb meta humour and pop culture references, removing most of the soundtrack to bizarrely replace it with ambient noise, and making questionable changes to the gameplay. This is especially visible because the game has a fairly involved branching story system where your choice of character and decisions during the story influence what happens next.
A translation of the Japanese release has finally dropped yesterday. While the original Rushing Beat Shura’s story isn’t exactly high art, there was clearly effort put into it and I’m glad to finally experience it as intended.
