Medarot 3 (Medabots) is now translated in English!

If you’re decently fucking old, you may remember Medabots, a Pokemon-esque franchise about collecting robot parts. The first (and excellent) anime series is by far the best known part of it in the west, but originally it was a series of Game Boy RPGs by Natsume and Imagineer and fans have been working overtime to make the (mostly unexported) material more available to English speakers.

Today, 2000’s Medarot 3 for the Game Boy Color is now fully translated and playable in English in whatever format you choose!

This a Big Deal for several reasons:

-It is the direct sequel to Medarot 2/Medabots on GBA (the only mainline game to be exported).
-Medabot games have intriguing and involved battle systems. Medarot 3 up on the depth with new features like Medachange (medabots that can transform, gaining new abilities and movement properties), Medalias (gems you can put inside your Medabot’s medals to respec and cover their weakness) and arenas with special events.
-This is just a high-effort game in general. The graphic and music are great. The game is ridiculously lengthy (it has more text than Dragon Quest 3!) The story is very funny and even heartwarming at times. It has some of the clearest voice samples you’ll hear coming out of a GBC

So what are you waiting for? Get the patch here! (For ETHICS DISCLAIMER, I was involved in playing pre-release builds and giving feedbacks)

Huh, I must admit the entire franchise passed me by, like the Super Robot Wars and Kamen Rider games that have always existed.

When you mention that it’s a direct sequel to the GBA Medabots 2, do you mean chronologically or did they release the GBA game first? That sounds interesting.

Also, is this Medabots 2 or 3?

I should have been more clear: Medarot 2 was released in 1999 as a black GBC cartridge. In 2003, it was remade as Medarot 2 Core (just “Medabots” internationally) on GBA to take advantage of the western airing of the anime. Hence Medarot 3 being a sequel.

Lol that’s funny, I didn’t know neptunia had a reference.

This series features Moai
