My GBA Consolizer finally came in. It’s an absolutely amazing device! I had fun doing the mod. This was my first one and a good learning experience. I really love how the scanline #1 looks. These shots are with the standard palette. I also really like the less saturated GBA palette. These shots are on my 55” LG Oled. If anyone wants one of these installed be sure to get a hold of me!
Nice. Congrats on the mod.
A little Sonic Jam: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 through the Monster Power PowerCenter HTS3500 MKII, Sega Saturn, Retro-Bit S-Video Cable, JVC JX-S777 AV Selector, Monster Cable S-Video Cable, and JVC AV-27D305.
NOW IS THE TIME TO THE 68000 HEART ON FIRE
I’m surprised at how light the lines are in those patterns.
Is grid supposed to emulate the handheld’s lcd look?
Yep, that’s exactly it. There are 2 other settings for the grid and they are both darker. There’s also a traditional scan line filter.
This game is criminally underrated by the modern gaming community just for being different. It was a brilliant game and better than SMB2J (aka Lost Levels). It’s even a great Mario game when compared to its peer games.
Funny thing, I have SMB2 (USA) for NES, Super Mario Bros 2j for FDS, and Doki Doki Panic for the FDS as well. It’s pretty cool to compare and contrast them all.
Doki Doki Panic has a cool intro that didn’t make it overseas which ties together the story book theme (ie the pause menus of SMB2 USA are in the shape of a book, but it doesn’t make sense themattically as it’s supposed to be a dream world). But otherwise SMB2 USA is my favorite of the bunch and represents my favorite combo of elements.
Mario 2/Super Mario USA is such a beautiful game.
I couldn’t agree more. I always thought it was a really special game. It looked amazing for the time and felt really magical. I think it still holds up incredibly well.
A little Street Fighter III: Third Strike through the Monster Power PowerCenter HTS3500 MKII, Sega Dreamcast, Retro-Bit S-Video Cable, JVC JX-S777 AV Selector, Monster Cable S-Video Cable, and JVC AV-27D305.
JebBush Christ…
The scanlines are accurate, but the horizontal res is still being rescaled.
It didn’t appear to be such an issue on Double Impact, but 3rd shows capcom really didn’t give two @#%#'s about accuracy.
I’ve also noticed this on some of the Mega Man Anniversary Collections.
I always joke that if anyone plays the Doki Doki original, NOBODY CARES!!
Mario and cast makes all the difference.
I’m playing in 240p mode on the Sega Dreamcast. I stay away from most 2-D ports on the PlayStation 2 because I can’t deal with it upscaled to 480i.
Yes it was so weird 3S had worse IQ than DI.
There is one port that could be a possible candidate hooking PS2 up to the OSSC as it can put scanlines in place of alternating lines. I had 3rd Strike from SF: Anniversary on that and it scaled properly, but you have to run the game’s own filter in order for it to look anything crt like. I had the s-video go in through some other processors on the chain and it lined up, but straight component was getting in that field of uneven pixels again (just not anywhere near as bad as the DC version).
I would like to try this again with one of those optimized settings to nail the sweet spot on this. SSF2 actually didn’t need any adjustment at all!
It was weird because they had different output modes via button combinations, yet they can’t mix with the arcade’s original res.
They really locked down to 320 or 640, which shows the lack of care they had.
