Such a perfect pixel structure on that set!
PS2 with component cables via OSSC, on an LG 24GM77 LCD monitor. For some reason these pictures don’t look as good as the Wii U ones, despite the image looking really great in reality. I guess my phone camera doesn’t like the PS2 that much. ![]()
Are they 480i native? That may explain it.
I actually think those pictures look great.
Thanks! Valkyrie Profile 2 and Soul Calibur 3 are 480p, both played with 2x mode on the OSSC, while the rest are indeed 480i displayed on 4x mode, but there isn’t much difference in display quality between them, in theory there should be a flicker “effect” for the 480i title as the OSSC uses bob deinterlacing, but I found out that my monitor has a setting called “Response Time”, and turning that off almost completely removed the flicker. It’s still a bit visible on a static screen like a menu but even there it’s almost not noticeable.
I really thing the OSSC shines when used on a monitor instead of a TV as monitors can usually accept any weird resolutions and do 1:1 pixel mapping, while most TVs can be quite picky.
That makes sense. Haven’t owned many flat panel monitors myself so I’m not really that aware of what’s out there these days.
Just some more mucking around from me, I’m having difficulty committing to just one game! Although I am pretty close to finally finishing up Illusion of Gaia.
I’m heading off on holiday for a week tomorrow so I thought I’d get a good gaming session in. Everything via RGB on original hardware on a PVM 20L2.
Just some more PS2 via OSSC pictures:
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec
GTA San Andreas:
Tekken 4:
Valkyrie Profile 2 (probably the best looking PS2 game):
@S77 are those scanlines from the OSSC? If so, I need to pick one up ASAP.
These look great! Are you using optimised modes or just the generic 4:3?
@rancid Yea, they are just the default OSSC scanlines at 50% strength, nothing fancy, but the OSSC has alot of options for custom scanlines if you don’t like the default ones.
@Listai It’s just generic 4:3, I didn’t change timings or optimised anything as I didn’t feel like it’s needed. Maybe the aspect ratio is closer to 5:4 than 4:3, using my eyes to judge, but it’s a non-issue for me.
For some games this looks really amazing because they don’t require any specific timnigs and generic does a great job in assisting the old crt style.
One tip users should keep in mind the higher multiple modes will result in less upscaling by the display itself, but it comes to excessive sharpening vs what low res was intended to look like. Plus if you run darker scanlines on X2, expect the screen to be darker too, so make adjustments accordingly.
And some ninja Gaiden Black in 1440p IMG_20200119_231019_resize_43|375x500
Just some Streets of Rage 3 and Illusion of Gaia on my VA1 Mega Drive and 1 chip Super Famicom respectively. Both via RGB on my PVM20L2.
