So are you guys getting a Switch 2?

I like motion controls, but not in Mario Kart games. I would likely enjoy the tilt controls if the wheel had a mount/pivot in the center to ground the setup rather than just exist as a shell.

I think the labo setups would’ve been to my liking if I ever tried them:

I think the fact that the remote is just in your palms gives it a slightly floaty feeling when tilting to steer.

The thing is, I always choose motion controls in other games that offer them like Super Mario Odyssey, ARMS, and Splatoon.

Honestly after so much Wii and Wii U (I didn’t play much Mario Kart on Switch) at this point Mario Kart motion controls are muscle memory for me. I couldn’t tell you what, when, why I do what I do.

I once made it to the final of an MK8 tournament, which surprised a lot of people because I use motion control. I lost to a guy that trash-talked in Luigi’s voice through the whole race.

Also, that Labo is by far the best one. The 4x4 island exploration is amazing. I’d say it was definitely an influence on Mario Kart World.

I really dropped the ball on Labo. I know I would have enjoyed it but never bought any of the sets.

I was given this one for free by a friend who was clearing out.

I have two of the sets but never opened them… I was waiting until I had a place with more space.

Still waiting lol.

So I got my system and completed the transfer of content. Checked out 5 mins of the welcome tour. It’s kind of cool.

Also quickly played like 10 minutes of TotK Seitch 2 edition in portable mode and yea… this is really cool.

I really dig the size and specs of the screen and the ability for it to easily nail this large a game at 1080p at 60fps. It was way more impressive than I thought it would be.

Clearer by a long shot than Switch 1 on docked mode to my 4k OLED, especially due to the huge generate bump.

Even when using ultra hand, this game’s frame rate is LOCKED.

Overall, I haven’t had much time to dig in. But it really is a nice system. By far the most premium feeling Nintendo hardware has ever made. I’m not coming from an OLED switch so this is a complete upgrade over my OG Switch.

Looking forward to playing MKW when my schedule allows.

Yesterday’s Splatoon 3 news got me to seek out a used copy yesterday. Also peer pressured into getting a Pro Controller 2 after hearing so much good about it.

Splatoon 3 plays super smoothly with the patch. I had a great time getting back into it last night.

I don’t know how many of you got Welcome Tour but even at $10 I think it’s brilliant! It’s like they made a “game” for budding little engineers and industrial designers! If you have kids that have even mild interest in tech, this thing is wildly engaging in that specific way.

Also, if you have a friend who always claims they can’t see low framerate, Nintendo’s got the game for you.

I honeslty don’t want to say too much because there are a ton of neat little surprises in this thing that only Nintendo would think of and put out there. It’s both silly and educational. Fun and sometimes slight, but always has purpose. Recommended!

Agreed. I’m really digging the Welcome Tour. Worth the 10 bucks for some fun tech demos of the hardware.i also love the explanatory text of how the hardware differs from previous hardware Nintendo has designed.

I’m enjoying the Welcome Tour as well. I enjoy hearing about little optimizations that they implemented on the hardware (e.g. why dock is less likely to tip). Games are nice as well and many showcase very well how nice it feels to use mouse+gyro+rumble.

Same. The info dumps before the quizzes are my favorite part.

Despite Game Key Cards existing, some publishers are still selling codes in boxes.

It’s pretty amazing just how well games like TotK and DK Bananza run on this thing, especially docked.

We are getting physics sandbox games with extremely large environments running at 60fps (pretty much locked) at around 1440p (give or take). DKB has some rough shadow textures, but otherwise looks like a PS5 game.

Smaller scale games like Splatoon 3 can run at 4k/60fps with zero dips too. I’m not obsessed with graphics, but I really didn’t anticipate the games running this much better.

It’s awesome, and Bananza is amazing. Filled with the magic only Nintendo seems capable of producing regularly. It’s such a simple idea to build a game around (Smash Everything) and yet it keeps on surprising with new twists on it the further you go.

I plan to play Tears of the Kingdom when I’m done as I totally failed to play it when it shipped. I was just wrapped up in other stuff and kept putting it off despite having Breath of the Wild among my all time top ten.

Of all the recent great games Nintendo has made, I would personally put TotK at the top of the list as their best accomplishment. It may even their best game ever in my book.

It’s incredible. Unfathomable. Love it.

When you consider the amount of things that could go wrong in making such a game, unfathomable is an apt description. It’s endlessly enjoyable to play, especially the Switch 2 upgraded version now that the frame rate is a nearly locked 60fps.

Finally got my hands on one on a trip to South Korea. Paid ₩606,000, and got tax free at Lotte Mart.

Had to get a converter for the AC adapter but it’s way better than having to enter a lottery in Japan and pay an even higher price than that.

It’s possible that your Switch 2 is not outputting 4K to your TV and you haven’t noticed.

Go to System Settings > Display > Dock Output Information

Here it will show the output resolution. If it’s not 4K, Here are some possible troubleshooting steps:

  • It’s possible that your TV only has one HDMI port that actually supports 4K. On my TV it was HDMI 3.
  • You may also have to enable Ultra High Speed on that port in your TV’s settings.
  • If you have any kind of HDMI switcher in the path of your Switch 2, it may not support Ultra High Speed.

I hope this helps some people realize they aren’t using 4K and fix it!

Bananza was great all the way through but really kicks ass in the last few Sublayers. End boss fight was an all time great among Nintendo games. Loved it from start to finish and picked it up a few times now post-game too where more content is available.
