The translated MSX2 version is definitely cool to check out. The game is amazing by '80s standards for the genre although if you’re used to the Sega CD version, you will notice all the ways it’s more primitive.
After the awesome 8BitDo M30 pad which lets face it, was made for Sega fans, I wanted to see if their SN30 Pro + was just as good to use. And again, let’s face it, this is made with Nintendo fans in mind. Just look at the colour and main body of the pad.
I loved Global Defense/SDI back in the day, and it holds up quite well. I had it on SMS and didn’t know there was an arcade version until years later. And the Amiga port’s music is awesome.
Known as Soldiers of Fortune in the US but The Chaos Engine everywhere else comes yet another classic from the Bitmap brothers. But which versions are the best? Home computer or console?
Nice job on the comparisons, as always. I’m a fan of the series. It has a certain charm to it.
It was also called Soldiers of Fortune in Canada, not just the US. Those countries get the same game names (sometimes Mexico and other Latin American countries, too).
A little late to the party on this one but that’s okay because that means more time with the console. Here we go with a full review of the LDK Landscape edition. Many say it’s less powerful that the portrait style system. Really?
Lack the ability to use RGB?
Stuck using crappy composite video or the slightly better S-Video?
Then maybe you need the RAD2X HDMI solution for your Sega Saturn.
How’ve you got that hooked up through Framemeister? It’s been a while since i used the HDMI ports tbh, but I thought scanlines on HDMI input looked messed up? I think I tried it once on the 720p output of a SNES Mini.
And didn’t scanlines require HDMI Direct turned off? If that’s turned off, and it’s upscaling 480p to 720p, i’d expect the colours to be messed up too (at least for me, 480p on say a Gamecube gets a really oversaturated and contrasty look) compared to 480i). But i mean, it looks pretty good in the video!
Your RGB problem is definitely weird though, i’ve never noticed any noise out of mine, let alone that high pitched buzz.
Scanlines through hdmi are fine as long as you output 720p and not 1080p. That is the same for RGB as well. Since my TV is 4K it is better for it to upscale a 720p image to 4k than a 1080p image anyway so it is actually an advantage.
I’ve seen people say this before and I’m not sure I get the logic behind it. 720p and 1080p both are integer scales to 4k (2160p). Is it because 240px3 to 720 and then 720p x 3 to 4k?

In this video I address a few of the questions people asked during the last video. These are:
Confusion about lag (Milliseconds compared to Microseconds)
White balance looking warm
Time out from resolution switching
Effects of the Low Pass Filter
RAD2X output resolution
