VCN (Variable CRT Noise) - A CRT whine simulator for PC

This is an interesting one I found on Reddit.

Ryzenvidious has released a software he made called VCN that simulates the high pitched whine that’s produced by CRT screens.

NOT a constant tone - it seriously reproduces bursts, twists, and occasionally “crackles” directly in sync with the monitor in a very authentic manner. I thought it could be appreciated amongst fans of retro things! I developed it when I thought - “there are CRT shaders, but I also want that particular sound.”.

You can grab it from his itch.io page here. Originally he tried to sell it for $60, but he made it “name your price” after he got criticism for it.

Here’s a video demo of it. The author says:

make sure to use good speakers and crank the volume slightly up, for the demo purpose I set the emulator volume to around 30% and the app to 100%.

What do you think of this idea? Silly and unnecessary or an important missing component of emulating a CRT on modern hardware?

I think I’m legitimately too old to be able to hear this. And even if I could, it doesn’t seem like a very desirable aspect of authentic.
