such a wild story
I remember that I loved this game, such a good looking FPS. Was stoked that it came in a huge 60+ PS1 that I recently acquired, but alas, it wasn’t working (disk rot).
Bummer it had rot. Must have been stores or treated badly as I’ve never seen a single instance of Rot outside of scratched / damaged games that breached the layers
Such a good looking game.
yeah it looked legit for sure
Great Video! I appreciate these types of comparisons because software emulation is so well developed and supported today but gets bad press due to weak hardware used in a lot of situations. The major downside to emulation to me is how much you need to set up to make for the best experience (specific emulators, BIOS, latency settings, high hardware requirements, not widely advertised settings, shader tweaks/CRT_emudriver/Super Resolutions, etc.), though I’m grateful that the options are there.
That said I love the MiSTer as being such an easy ‘plug and play’ solution in comparison while being as close as possible to original hardware. It is so easy to set up and update, and there are still plenty of options to change things without being nearly as fiddly as a software emulator.
If I were to nitpick one thing:
In the Streets of Rage Example at 5:23, it looks like two different aspect ratios were used. If you look at the two images side by side you can see the MiSTer is more narrow than the software emulation, creating shimmering and uneven dithering. I’m not sure if this is just from the capture or different settings between the two (There are so many options for modifying aspect ratio in both RA and MiSTer it is untelling what is exactly different).
Other than that it is crazy how fast the MiSTer has reached such an accurate state for so many consoles. I am continually blown away.
Yes MiSTer has progressed quite quickly. I appreciate it as it’s a standard hardware “platform” with a very small OS footprint. Every user gets the same experience.
With software emulation it can greatly be affected by specs, OS overhead, any bloat ware, too many Chrome tabs being open…you name it and it can have an impact
