Right, but they didn’t remove the original from the eShop. And even if they did, it would have been less of an issue since the control schemes between the Wii U version and Switch version are basically identical.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Paper Mario: Color Splash, Xenoblade X, Star Fox Zero, as well as Mario Maker 1 & Splatoon 1 if you consider those exclusive.
That’s the last one I wanted. Other than wanting to just check out Nintendoland, there is now zero reason for me to want a Wii U outside of pure collecting and resale purposes.
Pikmin 3 has been reinstated on the Wii U eShop which is great news if you haven’t checked out the DLC yet. I suppose I’d better put my money where my mouth is and actually get it in case it gets pulled again.
Edit: Tropical Freeze is also back, but Bayonetta is still gone.
I’m still skeptical about this one, the impression I get is it would be too much work to port over the game’s extensive network/online functionality and its bespoke engine. Even Xenoblade Definitive Edition went on the Xenoblade 2 engine.
Given the time between releases, and history of ports from Wii U to Switch, I imagine the tech for XC2 and XCX isn’t that different. I know this is a big beast of a game, but I could totally see it happening at the tail end of the Switch’s lifecycle given the newfound popularity of the series.
It’s really a question of how much they think it will sell for, and whether or not they plan on doing a XBX2 - also depending on sale potential.
I just remembered X’s cliffhanger ending as well, they may well not bring it back for a remaster if they’ve decided not to follow it up with anything, since it could potentially create the wrong sort of expectation from fans.
Back to this for a second… I really think Wii U’s best games are those they may never port, and that’s all the stuff that uses the Gamepad in an asymmetric way. It is totally worth getting one if you have people you can play with locally (post-COVID of course).
I think some of my favorite gaming experiences will forever be tied to the likes of Nintendo Land, Game & Wario, and even Wii Party U!
If you already own Wii remotes and nunchuks, then adding a Wii U isn’t all that expensive an option to get access to these great games.
