Wii U Appreciation and Collecting Thread

Unless I’m doing something wrong… Mario Kart 8 runs letterboxed when Wii U is set to 4:3, as does the system menu. I’m using HDMI.

sad face

And wow did I forget how slow the Wii U system software is!

EDIT: This post suggests using component. I’ll try that next. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/631516-wii-u/70694277

No, still letterboxed for me.

Sorry for the fake news so…
There’s this video too :

Is the image squeezed ?

Difficult to tell from the angle I’ll compare.

I’ve also asked on that video comments.

I agree with you. I need to grab Game & Wario though. It’s on my list of things I missed.

video guy says he used RCA (composite cables)

could that be it?

edit: maybe not (warning, obnoxious video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYFG3VEVnJw

That looks like the Wii U is set to do 16:9 output over analog and the TV is displaying it in 4:3, so everything is stretched vertically.

I may get one yet. I have a Wii with all the trappings so I’d just need the console. My girls enjoy Wii games. We have a decent library of them now.

You would love playing Nintendo Land with them. Guaranteed.

I absolutely agree with @DaveLong, especially regarding Game & Wario. My boys have a thousand options for games to play and they often play that game on the Wii U and laugh the whole way through.

Never ceases to surprise me (in a good way, makes me feel like a good dad! Hahaha )!

Did anyone play a game called Affordable Space Adventures?

I just remembered it and I had so many good memories playing it - it surprises right through to the very special ending. Wish it received a disc release, it’s one of the most interesting Wii U games.

This was something I wanted to try with my son, but never got around to it. Still available and worth checking out?

I bought it but in a sale but never played it!

I bet it’s even more engrossing in co-op, definitely give it a go when you can!

Yes! We played it with three players and it is absolutely one of the best and most entertaining games on the Wii U. It’s truly one of a kind and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see the capabilities of the Wii U’s unique control schemes used to their fullest via asymmetric gameplay!

Thanks, guys, gonna give this a shot over xmas break.

Reporting back in - Affordable Space Adventures is the real deal. The puzzle/exploration themes are perfect with it’s local multiplayer. Managed to interest my son well enough to pull him away from Minecraft.

Missed this over Christmas! Glad you both enjoyed it - what did you make of the ending?

Not quite at the end yet, but will let you know!

Hi everyone, do you know if Wii games on Wii U and a 4/3 CRT can offer the same experience as the original Wii ?
Is it emulation ?
I have tested N64 emulation on the Wii U and CRT and games run in a small window, I hope that’s not the case for the Wii games (I want to play Super Mario Galaxy).
Edit : I have the Wiimote and the sensor bar.

Just plugged my Wii U back in for the first time in like 4 years. I missed this UI.
