Arcade Game/PCB Collecting: A Thread for Gamers With More Money Than Sense

Laminated would be better for the long term and would allow it to be easily wiped down to clean it if it ever gets dirty and not damage the print.

Wow congrats on the CPS2. I’m still in the years of “maybes” and still have yet to pull the trigger. It’s a dream thing for me.

Edit: seems I’m reacting to a years old post lol. That’ll teach me to scroll with a poor internet connection.

Yeah… sold it (and other things) to help fund a house deposit unfortunately…

Will get another eventually though.

A house is a pretty cool thing too though. Probably the right choice.

Since finishing my arcade stick build, I’ve been browsing through titles in MAME much more than usual.

I’ve also been rotating my monitor for tate, which is also super fun.

Any recommendations that are a little off the radar that I should check out?

Elevator Action Returns in case you haven’t played it yet. They don’t get much better than that one, but not many people talk about it.

Are all superguns capable of 480p output for games that natively render at that resolution?

I want to grab metal Slug 6 on Atomiswave someday but I’m not sure whether axunworks’ super gun would work.

I’m specifically considering one of these. Anyone know if it’s worth it and outputs a safe RGB signal?

The sheer form factor and versatility of supported inputs looks really great.

That supergun seems silly expensive though the built in JVS I/O is nice.

As for your question almost every arcade PCB that does 480p has the video output as a VGA connector on the PCB itself outputting via RGBHV.

The JAMMA connector is only really used for 15KHZ RGBS, though it could do higher resolutions easy enough but even most mid resolution games output their video via a filter board such as SEGA Model2/3.

Makes sense, they probably wanted to avoid people damaging their 15khz tubes by mistake at all cost.

Found an arcade board locally that was up for a while, so I made the guy an offer for $80 CAD. I’m not actively collecting arcade PCBs or anything, but I couldn’t pass up a vertical shooter for that price.

The game is MX 5000 by Konami, and it came with a control panel as well.

Well, I did a thing tonight.

Found a Galaga locally that had been converted to a Golden Axe, and then in the process of being converted back to a Galaga. No idea why they chose the blue paint, but I’ll have to get it back to looking like a real Galaga again.

The monitor looks awesome, 19" and no burn in that I can see with the naked eye.

The PCB that came with it is Golden Axe, not Galaga.

For $400 CAD, I think it was a great deal. The cabinet is in excellent shape, and the PCB and monitor are both working.

Just uploaded a video on how to trick out a cheap Mayflash arcade stick with Sanwa parts. Had fun putting his one together!

Now available supergun from Behar Bros for $90. I’m not part of the elite (hehe) arcade race, but it looks like a good piece of kit.

Archived livestream of Bob testing it out from about a year ago:

Playstation pad is probably smartest, has the most options. But kind of annoys me, always hard to get a great dpad on Sony consoles.

Maybe it will work with the new bluetooth adapters? I’ve been using a buetooth Saturn pad on PS2 for most stuff these days.

So, I’ve always avoided thread for the health and safety of my wallet, but since playing my first candy cab about a year ago, my desire has slowly built to the point that I am finally ready to admit that I am dying to own a candy cab of my own!

After reading up on a few forums, I am really wanting an Astro City 2, Taito Egret 2, or Blast City. That said, finding a cab with a CRT in good condition is the most important aspect for me. I’m also smitten with the Capcom mini-cute and the Neo Geo 19" cab, and they’re probably more feasible for home-use anyway.

So I guess my question is, what’s the best way to go about finding a candy cab in good condition these days, and what should I expect to pay? I am rural, so I expect to travel a long way to pick one up over shipping, but I really just don’t know where to start.

Join up over at Arcade-Projects.com and start talking with folks there. They’re the pros and will have the best info for you. That’s where I learned about and got my original HAS supergun, and have gotten a lot of PCBs on their trading forum. They even helped me identify some things when I got an old super gun through a lot.

That said, be sure to share with us what you end up getting here!
