Moai in video games 🗿

My nine-year-old daughter and I started developing a game in GameMaker yesterday. She’s created some levels in Mario Maker before and made some simple games in Game Builder Garage, but this is the first time we’ve teamed up to create a game from scratch!

Why am I telling you all this, you might ask? Well, it turns out my daughter loves memes about Moai statues. Don’t ask me how or why, she just thinks they’re hilarious. So when I asked her what kind of enemies should appear in the game, she was adamant that Moai statues would be the main enemies. Also, the game is set in outer space.

Here’s a first look!

If we succeed in finishing this game and upload it to Gamejolt or something, I’ll be sure to let you know

Nice! I’ll add it once it’s publicly playable.

There’s a whole Reddit for them. :joy:

Can you believe the email interview was last October? The print lead time is long.

Haven’t actually played the game yet, but…

Sadly there are none in the game! Only Olmec heads. Some miscommunication to the illustrator who did the cover.

How about this enemy in Tänzer?

Looks rather Moai-like, right?

Could be.

What a cool game. Just skimmed a 1CC on YouTube. The crucifixion boss was a bit of a surprise!

Yeah, it’s pretty awesome! I was playing it yesterday on the Evercade and when I encountered that Moai-ish looking enemy this thread came to mind.

Ladies and gentlemen… Nintendogs.

Ah! Good find.

But we already have it on the list. :dog:

Ah poo, I must have scrolled past it

No worries.

Don’t forget there’s an alphabetical list: https://moai.games/by-title/

We’re over 700 now. And a bunch in the bank.

Got my eye on 1000.

Tickets and guides from the 1982 exhibition in Japan that included a real Moai, placing them firmly in Japanese pop culture and kickstarting this crazy Moai in games fad.

Will scan and share when they arrive. :sparkles::moyai::sparkles:
