Nintendo DS |OT| Everyone Buys a DSi XL

Air Traffic Controller/Air Traffic Chaos arrived recently and I had a quick look just to see whether it was subject to New Publisher Meddling. All looks untouched to me - despite the back of the box making reference to the world’s it’s still only set in Japan.

Looking forward to trying out the series. I hope it’s as frantic as Aeroporter on 3DS, though I suspect it will have a more staid personality.

This actually looks super interesting and right up my alley. The DS continues to be a system that has a lot of surprises in its library. I had to order a copy after reading your posts.

Did anyone ever use the rumble pak for the DS? Worth picking one up for cheap?

Does this still need CFW in the first place? The way it reads sounds like it’s running some homebrew app on the DSi itself to install.

Correct, to just install DSiWare you need only a way to launch homebrew.

(CFW lives only on SD card so I use that as a launcher and organiser to do everything)

DSRumble pack of limited use. I only played ActionLoop (aka Puxzloop) with it FWIW

I got one and used it for a couple hours in Hotel Dusk. It’s neat as a novelty. Would probably be cool for the pinball games that support it.

I’ve noticed my DSi XL’s screens have yellowed, much like my Lite, around the sides like a vignette…I’m guessing there’s no fix for this?

That’s really odd. Maybe it’s the plastic, itself, that is yellowing with age rather than the underlying LCD?

If it’s happening with two of your devices, it suggests that it could be environmental. Could you share a pic of the vignetting? Maybe the sunlight method could reverse it.

It would be weird if the pixels, themselves, were yellowing only at the edges like that.

Do you keep them somewhere hot? Or do you smoke?

It’s probably the heat that has caused it then, I don’t smoke.

I’ve seen a few hits for DS screens yellowing but no solutions other than replacing the screen with a 3rd party one…but then they’re also prone to tinting.

Can’t take a pic right now but it’s similar to this pic only less intense, you can see how the yellow tint is mostly around the edges and the middle isn’t quite as affected:

Not sure if Sunlight method would work but might be worth a try on my Lite which I don’t use much.

Damn that’s severe. Wish these things weren’t made with plastic.

Imagine if brushed aluminum were the industry standard instead. Or stainless steel. And glass. That’s the world I want to live in.

Has to be warmth, some of my stuff has yellowed while in a box in plastic on a shelf over years, no exposure of any sort.

I miss the Game Boy Micro’s anodised aluminium chassis and chrome buttons - great stuff.

There’s also the problem of adhesive which is used to make our devices ever-thinner in the modern era. I’m worried that my Virtual Boy won’t survive this summer, with the rising temperatures in the season potentially causing the adhesive to weaken faster than normal…

Just saw this pic again and it reminded me of how the background art in Order of Ecclesia really sings on the DSi XL displays. So good!

After seeing ERA learn what we already knew, I booted up my XL to find that the R4 cards firmware expires? Thankfully a simple system date change fixes it.

Some versions of flash cards have that built in. It’s super scummy and there are a lot of warnings now about using the cards that have those built in expirations. It is a good thing to look out for to anyone buying one now since it isn’t really something anyone expects.

That thread made me list all my DS/3DS consoles (I forgot to say I have two Majora’s Mask ones because apparently I’m THAT guy lol) and now I kinda want to take a bunch of pics of them all. It just seems like a waste of time considering I’d only be using my phone to take the pics. I should borrow my brother’s DSLR and do them justice.

Here’s the list once again.

DS Electric Blue (I also have a silver one a friend of my mom gave me when she cleared out a bunch of stuff but I let my niece take it)
DS Lite Zelda Phantom Hourglass
DSi XL Bronze
3DS Cosmo Black
3DS Zelda 25th Anniversary
3DS XL Zelda A Link Between Worlds
New 3DS XL Zelda Majora’s Mask (two of them because I’m crazy)
New 3DS XL Zelda Hyrule Edition
2DS Zelda Ocarina of Time
New 2DS XL Hylian Shield

Ha, that’s crazy.

Been trying out Twilight Menu++ on my DSI XL but having a weird issues with it.

If I load into Twilight Menu via the pit exploit, Twilight Menu++ doesn’t seem to be able to see any inserted DS carts at all.

With Unlaunch installed, Twilight Menu++ can now see cartridges inserted and I am able to dump/re-inject cart saves fine, BUT I just can not boot any original games via the cartridge slot either from within Twilight Menu++ or from Unlaunch.

Usually the DSI either goes to black/white blank screens or displays 4 coloured squares on the bottom screen as below if I try to boot any cartridge:

I’ve ended up having to remove Unlaunch just to get original game carts to boot again.
I’m rather confused as it should work…

I think best to contact TwilightMenu support via their discord.
