Oh man, I would totally buy one if my country hadn’t stopped all international mail from entering or leaving.

That sucks and kinda weird that mail is being stopped.

The adapter arrived, fits nicely in place though there is some slight give when pushing to eject the MicroSD card. SD slot is one of those spring eject types which is nice.

Any impressions/how did it work out for you? Looking to get the same thing.

I read the most recent leaked Nintendo docs revealed that there were plans for a docked GameCube around 2004. Quite amazing.

I’m not sure how I feel about the alternate timeline that would have resulted, because we may well have missed the revolution that was Wii and shortcut straight to Switch, missing out a whole range of new ways to play.

Also panned was a more direct “power-focused” competition to PS3 and 360.

Thoughts?

I guess a die shrink of the GameCube’s CPU and GPU was always on the cards then, it just ended up in the power efficient Wii rather than a (presumably) chunky but also power efficient portable console.

This was the right call, the handheld seems like it would have been treated like a PSP of sorts, it even had a planned 480 x 272 display like the PSP’s. I’m not sure what such a system could have brought to the landscape in terms of pushing forward game design and interface possibilities.

Releasing DS and Wii at a time where the world hasn’t moved to multiplatform releases for everything was the right call. Publishers supported their unique designs and possibilities without having to worry about missing a large chunk of the market.

Switch was the right system for the right time, 2007 wasn’t that time.

Members of Factor 5 confirmed this a few years ago. They knew of the plans before things were finalized.

Only checked to see if it was working, not put it through its paces yet but seems ok so far. I’ll try and play around with it more on the weekend.

Took a while but mine arrived and I got around to installing it yesterday. I found just inserting/removing the SD card is enough to dislodge the board though which is pretty annoying. I guess future revisions might be better but I stuck some blue tack onto the bottom of the micro sd slot board to just keep the whole thing connected to SP2.

Seems to be a common problem with sp2 adapters since the thickness of the sp2 port is a bit smaller then the standard pcb size. Some people have started adding a little bits of solder to the contacts to make it thicker, or trying to wedge the adapter in at some sort of angle to make sure contact is being made.

Don’t know if any revisions will fix this since the original has been discontinued I think and since it is a non standard size it’s not something that can just be ordered easily. Like there isn’t an off the shelf connector for that thinner size and custom connector units aren’t really feasible the low price people are willing to pay.

Lol. I have a few folded pieces of sticky note paper between it and my Gameboy player. Whatever works.

Don’t know if anyone bought a HyperBoot mod or cares but feel like I should update this cause my fork of swiss is now redundant as swiss since r906 now has autoboot dvd support which is excellent: https://github.com/emukidid/swiss-gc/commit/9cb7ef38cae6af07a1828c01ac6e8a6ac3255ced

The way I have things set up now is for HyperBoot to launch off the SP2 SD card if nothing is in the memory card slot – in this case I have swiss on there set to autoboot DVD and boot through IPL. So a very clean no memory card using set up allows me to just get a quick menu to force resolution if I want to, press A once and it launches proper with the cool GC boot animation.

Then if an SD card is present in the memory card slot B it’ll boot that. Right now the only thing I have in mind is GB Interface but it’s kinda like a cartridge slot for GameCube with the simple/quick boot so we’ll see where my mind goes with that. SNES9X RX on GC is kinda novel if a bit slow.

Sounds great, might look into it.

I’ve desired a Hori Game Boy Player Controller for years, and I’ve come to grips with the fact that I’ll never randomly run across one at a thrift store. I know Retro-Bit has teased an upcoming clone (maybe even wireless!) so I’ve had my eye out for that. Although their “third party controller” vibes usually leave a lot to be desired on their original controllers (I have a wireless N64 “Admiral”… nahhh) I think they really knocked their recent Sega repros out of the park! So I’ve been hopeful.

Just today I swung by a local crummy used CDs/games store and they had a bunch of third party stuff for different systems from the brand “Old Skool”… including a Hori GBP controller clone?!

First feel is that dpad doesn’t feel great and the controller overall has a “3rd party light” feeling. But dang I’ve been playing Donkey Kong GB with it for the past half hour and it’s… ok!! Better than I expected for the $20 price and “Old Skool” logo. Would love some other impressions if y’all run into one, especially if you own an original Hori to compare.

On one of my first trips to Japan, around 2008 I think, I found one of them Hori GB GCN pads for just 700y. I had no need for it at the time, but bought it for a friend… never seen another one again lol

I sold my Hori GC pad last year. Never really used it. I’ll keep my eye out for the clones.

lol, I’ve had a video featuring that controller show up a bunch in my youtube recommendations for the last few days. Kept meaning to look into it but always forget and move on.

It’s kind of a surprise that it took so long for a clone of the hori controller to be made, what with how popular/sought after it is.
