I do it using an Extron scaler that I use mostly for routing/switching not for scaling.
On Wii on my 640x480 display I settle for small black borders with pixel perfect mapping. Each game uses only part of the full frame. Not many use entire full frame. You have to draw the line, so to speak.
For me I set up the screen so that all games that seem to display fullscreen don’t underscan. If others overscan I consider this normal. Like I said OoT ans Starfox 64 overscan too much compared to the others N64 games to have to be seen entirely.
I will say, first F-Zero SFC, and I won’t contract the image after that.
Then Gamecube games, maybe RE1, Twilight Princess, Killer 7, there must have little black portions up or down the screen. So I will stretch the image a bit more.
My rule is to not have black portions, unless the game is obviously no fullscreen, like Starfox SFC or F-Zero X.
Actually I’ve got: SFC, N64 jap, Gamecube Pal, WiiU, and I’m good.
I had Megadrive and Saturn (both video output are damaged), and I think that I was happy with that too.
I can let you know exactly what games use the full area or some portion thereof if there’s any interest? Because of my pixel perfect 480p LCD EDTV PC mode display.
To calibrate I use not64 (N64 emulator) as I know that uses the full screen on Wii.
Most homebrew uses the full screen as they didn’t need to make the performance savings that games did by not drawing the whole area.
Thank you, indeed if you’re intrigued to know too, I would be curious to see how Starfox 64 and OoT (N64) display on your TV. And by the way I’m not sure to understand what pixel perfect means for a CRT.

This piece of plastic is cool and efficient, good design, robust, perfect weight with the Wiimote and batteries. Ghost Squad and Sin and Punishment: Star Successor were already great games, they are even better with that.
Pulled out my Wii and some games during a clean up that turned into a redecorating! It’s a slick system - if you can get over frustration over motion controls the Wiimote + Nunchuck is really comfy! The GC support and range of peripherals is cool.
One thing I’m surprised hasn’t happened is a combining of a Wiimote/Nunchuk into a single controller mod - I mean actually taking the guts out, not just slotting together somehow. I assume there are plenty of games that require a shake at most that aren’t compatible with the classic controller… but I could be wrong.
I needed a Nunchuk and went to a local store… now I have a cute Yoshi Wiimote too!
Tons of tacked on motion stuff, tons of shovelware or kiddie IP (probable) junk… but hopefully some gems. Wii stuff still cheap y’all!
I just got one of those battery powered sensor bars for more casual use of the console. None of the hassle of that sensor bar cord when I don’t play it that much.
Now I have the sillyness of having Wii and Gamecube plugged in. I don’t use GBP much, I just love the original Gamecube hardware.
Just spent a bit of time setting up the Wii in my current set up:
Component to Framemeister
Wireless Sensor bar
And accidentally played Excite Truck for who knows how long.
Excite Truck might actually be my game of that generation (maybe alongside Ouendan 1/2 and Contra 4). Like I loved Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 and Alice Madness Returns and Red Dead etc…
But Excite Truck is just arcade madness magic. It’s like the best Sega game they never made.
It’s a tragedy there wasn’t a proper follow up because they weirdly tried to appeal to nickelodeon kids or something and it bombed?
