So jealous right now.
I’ve been trying to play Policenauts lately but I’m having a lot of trouble getting the user disk to format properly. I follow the instructions in the manual but it always runs out of space while trying to copy files over. It’s pretty annoying. In general, the PC98 is a lot of trouble but the older ones aren’t that bad.
Which version of DOS are you using? I think there are some issues depending on the version, and one of them creates a file on the disk after formatting that needs to be removed.
The PC98 I’ve been trying to get it working with is running Windows 95. Although, I’ve been meaning to replace the hard drive in it with an SD card since it screams at me and I could swap out different OSes that way.
Yeah, Windows 95 comes with DOS 7.0, which has system files that are larger, which I think is the cause of the issue. DOS 5.0a is what the process is technically made for according to the back of the box.
Oooh. That makes a lot of sense. I’ll have to make sure I get DOS 5 when I get around to replacing my hard drive.
I’ve been trying to get an x68000 but none are avaliable on ebay
You’ll probably have to buy one off a Yahoo Auctions proxy service like Buyee.
If you do decide to bite the bullet, try your best to get an XVI since it can switch between 10 and 16 MHz, extra RAM, and ideally one that comes with a SCSI cable. The X68000 does not use a standard SCSI interface so if you don’t get one with a SCSI cable already, you’ll need to get one made somehow if you decide to go the preloaded hard disk image route. Also, if you don’t plan on spending hundreds of dollars on big box floppy games, you’ll want to look into Gotek floppy emulators. I have one in one of my PC98s but I’m pretty sure it works just as well in the X68000.
Just shared an extended post about the historic Akihabara map, adding a few more in the mix.
Teaser images:
Any reason to grab an MSX over a MSX2. I can get an MSX for pretty cheap.
If you’re happy not playing any MSX2 games. I wouldn’t be. Too many good MSX2 games to miss out on.
Yo, distract someone and run off with that Dreamcast TV.
Amazing, thanks for the pics!
Video recap from the event organisers. 1.5 hours worth!
