デルタ (Delta) a vector game in the style of Breakout, one of the games in the compilation セロファーンズ (Cellophanes/Serofans, by NineLives, 1997)
recently got a good deal on a 75xx model PS1 in excellent condition. even though I have multiple ways of playing PS1 games at this point, my PS2 has been struggling to read CDs lately so getting a dedicated PS1 would hopefully take the load off of it
I got some cheap Tomee S-video cables. at first I thought they didn’t fit but actually the fit was so tight I had to force it in. wasn’t a fan of that, I don’t think I’ll use it again for fear of messing up my AV port
I was however very surprised with the sharpness of such a cheap cable. it’s actually sharper than the PSP via component (which is notably soft to be fair, and I actually like it more. S-video was almost too sharp). here’s how it stacks up:
PS1 - Tomee S-video:
PSP - OEM Component cables
Mister YpbPr via Monoprice VGA → Component cable:
and just for fun, here’s OEM composite cables on the PS1:
I think the PS1 has the worst composite of all the systems I own. was surprised by how soft, and the amount of dot crawl present
Update on a new solderless, PS1 ODE. Compatible with all PSX/PSOne models. Install seems similar to a GDEMU for Dreamcast.
…it has some potential other abilities too
Sweet, a PSOne with one of these would be a nice little box.
Since the PS2 mass media options don’t support PS1 it’s a needed item, I’m keen on some of the translated games like the Goemons!
I have a PSOne with a busted lens this would be perfect for.

design of the Playstation from Digital Dreams: The Work of the Sony Design Center (1999, Paul Kunkel)
Some things you probably didn’t realise about the design of the original PlayStation:
- it was inspired by the Macintosh Plus
- the colour is grey with a hint of violet to counteract ageing/yellowing
- Sony acquired the PlayStation name from Yamaha
- it led to the VAIO range

Very nice. I’m glad he also too image and audio quality seriously.
I can only imagine what a nightmare that must have been to wire up.
Been playing 1996’s wonderful Gussun Paradise (aka YoYo’s Puzzle Park) on PS1. Only released in Japan & Europe (which I bought at some point).
Kind of Bomberman × Bubble Bobble. Feels intimidating/confusing for the first 30mins until it clicks …then you’re in heaven! Brilliant.

Wish I’d discovered this one out sooner! Thanks for sharing!
Had written off the series after getting Gussun Oyoyo S on Saturn and being phenomenally rubbish at it, had no idea this one was a completely different concept.
I think that’s why hardly anybody knows about this game.
It’s great to reuse the characters, but it also makes it difficult for people to realise or discover that it’s totally different and unrelated.
Was just remembering figuring out that Raptor & Raptor hovering vehicle had a faster top speed and better handling in reverse and they even flipped left and right so you could drive the entire game like that.
My original FAQ from 1996, which is 29 years ago this week:
A speed run showing the driving style
This game is incredible and it’s sad Polyphony never returned to it after GT, there is a vibe and sense of playfulness missing from most if not all racers I can think of since.
