King of Fighters 11 on PS2, RGB on Sony CRT. F*** the last boss in this game, my god!
True Pinball on Saturn, RGB on Sony CRT. This uses the hi res mode and looks pretty good! Shame they used 1/5 of the screen for a dot matrix display, could have almost seen the whole table if not.
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. In an alternate timeline, there would be a version tailored for CRTs nad 4:3 T_T
GBS downscale to 240p
Is the game out already or is that the trailer?
Just the trailer, the game doesn’t have a release date yet.
It’s Grundig time! 21" Grundig GR2150 with Scart RGB playing Top Hunter on Neo Geo AES. Really nice slot shadow mask in it.
Sexy shots!
Some shots of Strider on the Genesis Mini via Retroarch and the zFast shader.
I’ve been using scanlines on pretty much every older game that I could for it, including everything I play on my OSSC and its built in scanlines generator. Up til now it was just a pretty form of anti-aliasing and playing games closer to how they were intended to appear. But this zFast shader is the first time I got hit with that wave of nostalgia like “ohhhh that’s what CRT’s used to look like”.
I have my work cut out for me now because I just have to replicate this on the OSSC.
Hoping next-gen scalers will allow various blending options, scanline overlays are good but there’s some way to go. Maybe even shaders at the cost of a frame or two of lag would be pretty cool to really close in on the look.
N64 on a consumer slot mask crt
Aw man that looks awesome, I’m really considering getting a CRT just for the N64, even though I don’t have the room for one.
I managed to get pretty close with the OSSC after fiddling with the settings. Here’s Guilty Gear XX AC on the PS2 patched to 240p. The pictures I took doesn’t really capture it but it was absolutely stunning. The difference with scanlines on and off, it’s like 2 different games. There is a contrast and shadowing that the scanlines give that just makes the picture pop.
Can’t really guess what your space is like but 14 inch crts are very reasonably sized and are great to squeeze onto a desk.
Yeah I was considering a smaller crt but then the only desk I had is now my work desk during the pandemic and it’d be really weird to have on there.
There’s a 32FS100 available for free pick up near me and part of me wants to snap it up but the other part of me knows it’s a behemoth.
I just bought this game for MVS. How is it?
Not sure how period accurate scanlines are for 480p content (I don’t remember ever playing in 480p back in the day) but it actually looks really nice. Free anti-aliasing lol
Nice platformer.
DKCR looks really great there. I know how I’ll be playing Wii/GC games from now on. I did my most recent playthrough of that game on a Wii U before I got my OSSC as 480i for the Wii on a modern TV is just too blurry for my eyes.
Yeah, I can imagine modern TVs messing up the interlacing. PAL Wii RGB and 480i actually looks good on a CRT, like surprisingly sharp.
