SCANLINE SCREENSHOT THREAD. BECAUSE 240p IS ALL THE P'S I NEED. (56k warning)

a lot of the stuff I have on there is 1080p/4K, but luckily it gets downsampled to 480i (pretty sure the XBox does the same), so the higher bitrate stuff just looks amazing with the CRT motion

I agree about pixel art. for GBA I’m kind of biased because I grew up emulating the super bright and sharp pixels and it doesn’t bother me as much, but other stuff…seeing ultra sharp pixels is jarring. especially 3D games with 2D backgrounds like the PS1 JRPGs

Oh I hear you lol. I emulate it now, one of those games I had as a kid and sold to a second hand store for way less than it later ended up being worth

After seeing everyone’s cool shots of Harmony of Dissonance I decided I needed to fire up the GameCube and take a few shots myself. These are Swiss running GBI Forced to 240p. Shots from a BVM-14F5U

Amazing art for 240 x 160, I wonder if Konami kept their pixel artists around : (

that looks amazing. how are you getting it to scale to fit the entire screen?

The pictures are just deceptive. I just put the camera as close to the inner frame of the screen as I could. But it’s still windowed in the center.

But thinking about it… I could probably run the Game Cube into my Extron USP405 to size it up before it hit my matrix switch.

I know experimenting with running GBA games through PC to CRT what I’ve decided to do is just forego interger scaling and apply a “sharp bilinear” filter and to me it looks really good still

Hi All, I wanted to thank all of you for sharing your CRT goodness with the world, I’ve been following this thread for 2 or 3 years and am always happy to see new shots of your setups!

I wanted to ask if any of you might be interested in contributing some close shots of your CRTs for a bit of a preservation & shader development over on Libretro’s board.

We have a user which has been creating a really great HDR PVM shader which is getting very close to being able to emulate the look of a PVM CRT with a modern HDR screen even at very close range.

Here are a couple of images, photos from his PVM 2730QM on the left and one from his LCD on the right

CRT Photo: OnePlus 8 Pro Camera: Pro Mode, ISO 100, WB 5000K, Aperture Speed 1/60, about 10cm from the screen, 48MPixel JPEG.
LCD Photo: OnePlus 8 Pro Camera: Pro Mode, ISO 200, WB 5000K, Aperture Speed 1/60, about 10cm from the screen, 48MPixel JPEG.

So he created a thread where people could share some close images of their CRTs which could be used as reference to help create accurate shaders as our CRT hardware continues to age :).

Calling all CRT owners: photos please! - RetroArch Additions / Shaders - Libretro Forums

Thanks again for all your amazing posts and sharing your scanline magic!

Soo, I bought a cheap HDMI to component converter to run my Series X through the 5X to use the 5X for scanlines with a few games that don’t have the option. The Series X is outputting at 720p.

Seems to work pretty well, but the scanlines are vertical, which has me scratching my head! Other than that, I think they look pretty good. I wonder why it’s vertical, though? Hopefully I can figure it out after playing with a few more options. I’m using the FV310 preset with the strength and intensity cranked up a bit. Thought it looked best. These are just snaps with my cellphone.

These are cool! love the Twinbee and GunHed logos.

@akumagorath I think the camera makes the grille look a lot more square than it actually is, it’s a typical Trinitron grille but still great for GB
