I think it’s awesome that Tecmo Football gets updated every year. Living in Australia, gridiron isn’t quite the cultural icon, but I imagine this patch is the perfect overlap of NES love and footy love.
I do love it. I know sports games are 2nd class games for most, but I have fond memories of playing sports and sports games growing up.
I got Tecmo Super Bowl for Christmas one year and knew that it came in the mail. I opened the shipping box, removed the shrink wrap, played a couple games with one of my friends, then packaged it back up (sans shrink wrap of course) before my mom got home. Surely she knew but it’s a fond memory. I still have the cart, but 11 year old me wasn’t future proof enough to eventually toss the box and manual.
I also enjoy the users at Operation Sports that update NCAA Football 14 rosters every year. I have the updated ones downloaded but haven’t played it yet. NHL '94 is another one that gets a lot of user love in updates. I never played MVP 2005, but the PC version also gets a lot of love. Can a team of Ichiro clones win the World Series?
Thanks! I’ve been going back and forth with some of the sub-brightness settings but found I got better results by dropping it back while driving some of the colours up. It gave me the vibrancy I wanted without the blooming.
My next task is to try to get Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 from MGS3 Subsistence running in 240p.
As for Tintin I’m a huge fan but I’ve never been able to finish either Tintin in Tibet or Prisoners of the Sun!, I just adore how slavish both are to Herge’s art.
It’s worth a play! The platforming can be a little dicey but otherwise it’s fantastic. It’s just dripping with atmosphere. It’s kind of a Castlevania with the grim and melancholy cranked up to 11.
This is rendering in 1080p high and downscaling to 240p. I don’t know why but when I set native res to 480p and downscale to 240p It turns the whole image Green on my BVM. The PVM 2030 deals with it fine though so NO idea what is happening inside the Corio2 that would cause that. Frankly, both of those monitors need to be cracked open and re-capped.
The hex editing method is really only necessary for getting games to run in 240p. To force 480p it’s much easier (if you have FCMB installed) to use GSM to force NTSC non-interlaced if you’re booting from a disc or OPL has GSM built in if you’re using backups.
I’ll do a test on Metal Slug 6 when I get the chance
Trying some of these out with my LG real quick. It’s all true native res (no scaling, no filters), yet there’s something pretty funny I’ll have to explain later.
Just some random shots from my KVAR25M31 work has been murder so I haven’t had much time to play, I’m still chipping away at Terranigma and I was noodling around with SFII on SNES.
Since I installed my PSIO I decided to check PSX Doom out and it’s a very different game, the coloured sectors and atmospheric music make it a decidedly different experience.
