Yeah, the VR game is basically reworking of the 1st 3 games, yes, that includes Panzer Dragoon Saga!
Sunday funday!

Iām getting ready to buy a Saturn here, and I have a couple questions for you fine folks⦠More of confirming my research, but Iād like to hear your opinions.
- Iād like to buy a japanese system, as they can be had for much cheaper, and I prefer the controllers over the model 1 NA one.
- I have an action replay already
- Iād like to get some sort of SD/Flashcart/ODE solution, as collecting for this system is not reasonable any more in my opinion.
Questions:
- What system should I buy, model 1 or model 2? Iāve heard that the model 1 is more reliable.
- What SD/Flashcart/ODE solution do you recommend, and why? Does it matter what model I buy for this?
- Is the action replayās region unlock enough for me, if I only want to play NA/JP NTSC titles? I donāt really need support for PAL.
- Is it worth seeking out a Video CD card? They seem rather pricey for the amount of games that use them.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
If you want to keep the disc drive the only ODE option is the Satiator which is very slowly coming out.
If you dont mind burning CDs, the action replay can be reconfigured to run burned CD-Rs using Pseudo Saturn.
I am more thinking of ditching the drive. A non-permanent solution would be best though.
Once I have an ODE installed, I canāt see myself needing discs at all.
- Iāve had a US model 2 for years and Iāve never had any issues with it. Only reason to get a model 1 would be if you wanted to play the jp versions of outrun, space harrier, etc as those discs only seem to work with modefull-screen.
4.The video cd card never really appealed to me, as far as I know the only plus is being able to view Lunar cutscenes in fullscreen. Not worth the price of admission to me.
I didnāt know about that! I actually have both models of the Japanese Saturn so I must put your theory to the test!! ![]()
Thanks for the replies everyone. I think Iāll just put aside my fears and get the one I think looks the nicest. The japanese model two in white.
looking back through the thread there were some shots of Street Fighter zero 3. IIRC, the SFZs have a Saturn screen mode and arcade screen mode. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Iāve not been able to pick itā¦
Iirc visually there is none. At least with the other Capcom ports, the difference is how far outside the screen edges the character can move. Because the arcade had a wider resolution. Same reason why the characters arenāt in the same proportions as arcade on a 4:3 display despite being the same sprites.
Is it okay to use a 100v Saturn from Japan on 120v from NA?
Iām sure this is mostly common knowledge, but Iāve heard some people say that you need a step down converter, and others say itās just fine the way it is.
I decided to check on the power supply on my new Japanese saturn before plugging it into 120v power. The sticker on the back says 100v, but considering itās an internal PSU, it should be fine as long as the PSU can handle it.
Turns out the PSU board says right on it with silkscreen that the input can be to to 132v, so no worries if youāre plugging it into 120v. The large capacitor says it will handle 200v.
There are also some PSU boards that are different, some manufactured by Yamaha. Those have different ratings, but are still usually 120v and above.
So, simple solution, unbutton your system and have a look at the PSU board, you likely are wasting your money if youāre buying a step down converter to 100v.
I havenāt worried about this except when getting into like products that have heating elements. For those we have a very beefy 120v -> 100v transformer.
Only other case I would really worry is if itās something obscenely expensive like an X68000.
Itās almost ready! Got my MODE installed today and picked up the cheapest 1tb SSD I could find.
Now I just need to finish copying the 600gb of Japanese ROMS to it, and Iāll have a full global set ready to go at any time!
Can anyone recommend a good replacement PSU for my Japanese Model 2? I live in Australia so using an OEM psu (without gutting a PAL model) isnāt really an option.
Iāve read good things about the Resaturn psu but I was hoping someone here had some experience.
Started replaying my saturn games. Turns out my battery died so RIP my magic knight rayearth saves.
Was looking at importing some more games and good god have prices skyrocketed. Even ācheapā games have crazy high shipping on them.
I had to replace the battery on my Saturn and itās working like new! Yeah thatās basically Saturn prices nowadays.
How long does the battery typically last on a Saturn kept in storage? I was surprised my internal saves were still all there after over a year of inactivity.
I once read if you keep the Saturn plugged in (not on), the battery will last longer. Donāt know why, but I tested it for 3 years before forgetting one night after switching to another console and a month later the battery was dead. Mileage may vary
I absolutely hated playing the working designs translation of Rayearth. The English voices were awful and the American pop culture text was so off putting. The Japanese version is a million times better.
