Simple 1500 and Simple 2000 series

Have you guys played any games from the Simple series?

They’re a series of budget games for the PS1 (1500) and PS2 (2000) published by D3 Publisher. The names of the series come from the price of the games at launch, being 1500 and 2000 Yen respectively.

Most of them are titled “The [Title]”.

A lot of them are really poor quality, but there’s some gems in the series as well. Some of them got localized in the West, mostly in Europe.

Some highlights of the series that became decent hits:

The Chikyū Bōeigun 2

Localized as Global Defense Force, later became the Earth Defense Force series.

The Oneechanbara

Later localized as Zombie Zone in Europe, and became the Onechanbara series.

The Daibijin

Later localized as Demolition Girl in Europe.

Interestingly, D3 Publisher still has their sites for Simple 1500 and Simple 2000 up to this day.

My favourite Jarinko Chie: The Hanafuda, PS1

It’s a pretty straight hanafuda game with some different rule sets, tournament mode, and unlockable awards.

Brick Em All on the DS is part of the series as well.

I own a fair few on the PS2 and a handful on the PlayStation. Even some full price games ended up on this series. Shirenryu is one that I remember. However the PlayStation version sucks compared to the Saturn version, so maybe that’s why.
There’s also a pretty cool light gun game and a few decent shooters. Shame I can’t remember the names.

Yes. My Grandparents played PS1 in the early 00’s and my Grandpas favorite game to play was the Simple 1500 series Billiards I would play with him when I was sent to be watched over by them, they also had the Bowling game

That’s cool! I used to love Virtual Pool on DOS and it has the same vibe. There seems to have been a second Simple 1500 Series Billiards also (Vol 50).

IIRC a couple of PS1 billiards games were brought over and rebranded for the West. One with some kind of hustler vibe: Backstreet Billiards. Interested to know how the 5 (3 Japanese, 2 USA) are related.

Here are some lists:

Always been interested in these b-games but just don’t have the time!

EDF! EDF!

one of my favorite series still running, been meaning to hit up oneechanbara forever now. really interested in hearing any good good ones from this series, i love budget stuff - god knows its how we got katarmari

One I like is *Vol. 78: The Space Force (released in yurop as Space War Attack. It’s an Ace Combat-style flight shooter from the developers of the Sidewinder / Lethal Skies series, except you fight bug and aliens
