It’s a bummer we never got an official port like this. After Star Fox 64 3D and OOT 3D, I was hoping it was going to happen.
Was thinking the same yesterday, it’s almost like the 3DS came along a bit too early. There was a lot of talk about the death of 2D artwork back then with the DS seen as the last bastion of pixel art, and rereleases of old games weren’t particularly popular or hype-driven. Nintendo learned the wrong lessons from presumably-low sales of Arika’s 3D Classics titles and Star Fox 64, there was so much untapped potential for more titles like this.
(Also - weird that Luigi’s Mansion 1 got a late remake in 2018!)
Call me stubborn, but I’m holding out for a patch that provides an inverted camera option. If that means I miss the purchase window, so be it. With so many other ways to play SM64, and the fact that the collection is such a bare-bones effort from Nintendo, I just can’t deal with the inevitable frustration. 
But the Game & Watch still has my attention. Has there been any more news about that and preorders in the US? I had an Amazon placeholder page saved but either it was never updated or I was completely asleep at the wheel and missed my chance.

Nothing new about the US game and watch. Last news was it was waiting for certification.
Got my 120 stars in 64 and moving on to Sunshine next. Not going to go for 100% there since blue coins are still bullshit but that doesn’t make it less of a game to me. In the same way I don’t 100% Odyssey, but I’ve still beaten it every year since it’s release.

After seeing some footage of the game & watch in action on youtube, I finally caved and ordered one this morning.
I’m the opposite, the motion blur and lack of good viewing angles didn’t convince me
