The Motherload of Mother Merchandise

I’m in Japan and stayed in Shibuya for a bit. I unexpectedly came upon a pop up shop of one of my favorite series so I wanted to share a few quick photos.

I wasn’t able to take pictures of the museum exhibit (it was against the rules), but it was really cool. Basically a bunch of ultra high quality figurines of monsters and characters from the series.

Absolute madness.

If that was one of my fave series (I’ve been meaning to play them for years, really should) I would go broke in there!

my god, i love this so much. i’d be so very broke here :sob:

hard to pick out one single item, but a big ol’ mr saturn would fix me

man speaking of: when we moved here & got a custom rug for the game room, i went with the overworld map to link to the past (generic, i know, but i loved it growing up) but seeing the onnett background….i’d absolutely wallpaper that. it’s a background that makes me happy and i can actively hear the music from it is so, so great

It was difficult not to buy all of the plushies. Also not pictured were some amazing figurines in the museum gift shop that they wouldn’t let me photograph. They were very large and detailed and featured the 4 main cast members of Mother 2 / Earthbound.

To give folks sone idea of why this was a big deal, a box of the plushies came out to around 75 bucks in USD at the pop up shop. If I bought them on eBay, it would be closer to 200. Every item was a steal like this.

Somehow I walked away without buying anything though. It was kind of too much of a cool thing and I was overwhelmed by choice. I love the series too.

I would’ve bought the vinyl since I do collect music, but I wasn’t sure how I’d pack it to get it home without damaging it.

One day, I need to come back to Tokyo just to do a record store crawl. The amount of amazing jazz records in stores here far surpasses what stores in NYC have to offer. It’s not even close.

On a side note, I think Tokyo is probably the nicest modern city I’ve ever been to. It destroys NYC in a way I never thought any city could. It’s absolutely amazing.

oh yeah! when i was there in 2019 (made the sega fan festival, it was so cool) i grabbed my neo-geo AES off a super potato in osaka, but besides that & the arcade stick, my biggest expenditure was easily at record shops. as a 90’s NY hip-hop head, they had shit i’ve never even seen on wax out here, and prices were mostly fantastic too. absolutely copped a few jazz LP’s as well, good times

How’d you fly back with LPs? Any tips on packing? I’m still here for another day or so and can do some serious damage to my wallet if encouraged in the right way

oh man! i don’t have a good answer beyond “carefully:sweat_smile:

i wanna say i packed some in with my then-grrlfriend’s clothes around them? my suitcase was largely the neo-geo and a baker’s dozen saturn imports, so i think i mostly had em in her stuff haha
