Here’s another Red Art Games release. I’m actually really liking this one. The Bard’s Tale Remastered and Resnalked
It’s time to sit back, turn up the volume and chill.
A day late but it’s still here for the weekend. Another Battle of the Ports Remastered as voted for by you.
Today is a short video but it is a great one. We are going to take a look at Cave’s very first Arcade shooter, DonPachi.
Loved the DonPachi one!
thank man. DoDonPachi coming next week.
Let’s check out the stock VS custom firmware side by side.
Following on from last week’s BOTP comes DoDonPachi
Kinda surprising how much better the PS1 version looks compared to the saturn version. I didn’t expect that. I need to grab a region free PS1 and this game at some point.
Looks like Battle of the Ports is going to have me spending money again. I guess I always assumed shooters were just better on the Saturn, so that is where I got DoDonPachi ages ago. Looks like I need to get the PS1 release now.
There was also a 360 port hidden away as a bonus in Instant Brain. Apparently pretty accurate but lacking in options compared to what you would normally find in dedicated release.
Audio really sucks on the Saturn version of DoDonPachi, that hurts more than the pixelated explosions and other inaccuracies of the port. Considering the PCB goes for near 2000 USD these days, I’m cool with the PS1 port which is pretty decent and looks amazing in 240p in TATE.
Yep, that is because Cave did the port and to be honest they weren’t the best when it came to porting their own games back then.
They are better on the Saturn apart from DonPachi and DoDonPachi. Cave just didn’t know how to port their games. I wish SPS handled the Saturn ports.
What is this Instant Brain. Over here in Japan there is no Donpachi game with that name. The Donpachi I have for the 360 is called DoDonPachi Saidaidoujo.
Is that the same game?
Posted this in your video, copying it over.
Instant Brain was a Cave developed visual novel released for the 360. It features the original DoDonPachi as a bonus unlockable, and they even tacked on Kinect controls for it LOL. As far as I know it was just an emulation of the arcade version.
That’s interesting to know, you would have thought the people behind it would be the ideal ones to port it. Was the arcade hardware it ran on just more similar to the PS1?
Not at all, it’s just Cave producing a sub-standard port on hardware that can do better.
Absolutely. Just look at how perfect razings ports are.
I hope one day we’ll see Shienryu covered on Battle of the Ports!
One day, maybe.
Today it’s impossible Mission
