The Sunday Night Shmup thread

I’m curious about this as well. I have the US release of The Raiden Project, as well as both the SNES and Genesis versions of Raiden Trad, but not the TurboGrafx port yet. I have a Turbo Everdrive, so I could probably find out, but I’m not good enough at the original Raiden (yet) to be able to give you a very good assessment :stuck_out_tongue:

Been playing the Darius Cozmic Collection pretty much non-stop since I got it yesterday. Since I don’t have a full size Darius cab this will have to do for now.

Congrats! The Switch arcade controller is awesome, I want one now. What is that cabinet shell you have your Switch in? Custom made?

No, I got it on Amazon last year for 15 bucks.

Wow, didn’t expect that!

Looking forward to this! It’s not likely, because of all the information they throw at you, but it would be nice if they’d add a true tate mode to the game, considering the form factor of the Switch.

ah man

I decided to pull out Cotton 2 (which has mostly been in storage for years) because I just wanted to listen to the music tracks again something you can unlock in the options screen but gosh I can’t remember all the actual gameplay commands…

Does anyone know the command to drop the bouncing blob thing? I think I got everything else except the bouncing ball and now its just about remembering how to play all the levels again.

Made a quick capture vid of the training mode which is just the 1st stage looping.

EDIT

nvm figured it out

That’s quite the list! I’m working on R-Type III myself. It’s a really great game, but tough.

Ah, I heard it was a tough game, can’t wait to play it.

Nice, glad it’s happening, though I may play the other Raiden games before it.

If you’re wanting to get into old school Raiden titles definitely try to get a copy of either Raiden Project PS1 or Raiden Fighters Collection on 360 (still no XB1 BC for that one last I checked).

Thanks for finding this, I’m looking forward to having a physical copy with soundtrack.

Although I wish they would have bundled it with a coffee mug, as much as the captain goes on and on about his coffee…

LOL yeah, a coffee mug would have been fitting. The PS4 version comes with a soundtrack CD as well, but I’m happy to double up on the Switch version, because I rather like Raiden V, and it’s a chance to support MOSS and show them we want more shmups, more Raiden, and more games on the Switch.

It never came out in Europe unfortunatly. I can still remember preordering this game, waiting a very long time for it to come out, but it was cancelled because the publisher went out of business.

Welcome to the site Bastia!

I figured I’d show some love to a more recent title that really blew me away with it’s presentation.

Aqua Kitty - Milk Mine Defender is a modern take on the Defender style game (hence the ‘Defender’ in the name), and it’s got some of the best music I have ever heard in a game. The polish and presentation here is unbelievable, and it’s really fun to boot!

Highly recommend you guys give it a shot if you like Defender style shoot-em-ups. Check out the trailer:

Main character looks like Tails with an eye patch. Well, the game looks cool and I don’t mind Defender, so that’s good!
