Another one for the Switch:
R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter is live… and it looks like they shot themselves in the foot with a 7 day run time:
The movement looks all smooth, like you can’t change directions instantaneously. I’m hoping that’s a guy just using a thumbstick smoothly, or pre-programmed movement. If there’s a slow-down period before being able to change directions, then the game will be unplayable.
Looks good otherwise… I’m looking forward to it!
I don’t back kickstarter games anymore, it works out like 1 in 5 times. Even then backers usually get screwed with getting keys or the physically release days or weeks after the general public. I’ll pay for R-Type Final 2 when I can buy it in a store.
What? That’s even an option? The fuck, why would you choose to do that?
They’ve been active for a day and are 90 something% funded, they’ll be funded by this time tomorrow.
Looks like my worries were unfounded. It’s around $481,000 now.
Most Kickstarter threads I see are filled with people saying they’re going to pledge near the end of the campaign. And I’m willing to bet those people just forget to or are bullshitting around.
This short term opening probably forces people to back it immediately or not. I kind of admire that strategy.
Good for them, glad to see it’s successful. Hopefully the shipment arrives safely on the hype train!
Tonight I played Salamander(Life Force) and I love it!!! But man it’s tough, it requires you to get good, and fuck that end sequence, it took me multiple tries to beat that part without dying(like 15). Very fun game though and would be a nice 1CC as well.
One of my new favourites, since playing it during the high score battles! I’ve been working on NES Gradius since then, and I gotta say, it’s much harder. I finally got to the last level for the first time yesterday, but didn’t make it.
I had 7 lives when I died, and they were all gone within 2 minutes. Once I lost all my power-ups, I couldn’t get anywhere.
Ha, oh wow that sounds really crazy man. I know that game is challenging too, but gee!
Give Gradius a shot and let me know what you think!
Ok, I played the arcade version of Gradius, and yeah, it’s pretty hard but very fun and it’s a classic. Once you die it’s hard to come back it seems. But I replayed it over and over and gotten better at it, heck I can mostly do the latter half of the game fine and didn’t even die on one of the later stages on my 1st time through it as well. This game is definitely doable for a 1CC after enough tries and even using the Double in some stages works wonders for them(like Stages 4 and 5). I going to try Gradius 2 soon which I heard was difficult.
Yeah I couldn’t manage to finish it on NES until I switched to double for the inverted volcano stage and the final stage.
Yeah, it seems Double is more useful than I thought, definitely for enemies that like to stick above you and fire quite a bit of bullets, I will definitely use it more now. Off to play the arcade Gradius 2 in a bit.
Aye… I really dislike double for most of the game, but those stages in particular have lots of enemies on the roof.
Not an issue in life force, where the missiles shoot up and down.
Yep, that’s what I liked about Life Force/Salamander. Gradius 2 has something like that as well.
Just wanted to plug my podcast again, since the new episode is out. We’re on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Stitcher, but here’s the direct link, in case anyone wants to check it out from the website, or grab the MP3 for later. @Addicted and I talked for quite a while about Gradius III, both the arcade, and SNES versions. Some good discussion was had
Oh, Gradius 3…maybe one day I’ll get to that…
