Video Game Music |OT| - Not just Robot Farts and 5-Second Loops!

The Fate/Extra Hanafuda games (PSP) are pretty good.

Forgot to follow up on this! Didn’t know they did PSP Fate Hanafuda titles. I can imagine attaching a license to Hanafuda works pretty well, what stood out about these ones?

This game reviewed poorly back in the day and I have both fond and not-so-fond memories of playing through it over twenty years ago. Its soundtrack stuck with me the most.

A great tutorial, plus a nice variety of CPU play style. Crazy special moves too, I think.

The two are the same game but one has Shibu style graphics and the other adult. maybe the story varies too?

More on its channel.

The save music in Momotaro Dentetsu is more catchy than it has any right to be:

Been playing the latest one on Switch and it reuses a lot of music from the previous games - but that seems to be series tradition going from Momotetsu 2010 which was the last one by Hudson.

In what I can only describe as a total impulse buy due to a Jeremy Parish tweet, I ordered the ActRaiser Original Soundtrack & Symphonic Suite a couple months ago and it arrived this week. In all honesty, I had forgotten about it - Actraiser is a great game with great music, but never one that I revisit very often.

I popped the CD in and spent the next 60+ minutes blown away by how good it is. The original SNES tracks hold up and sound superb. There are a bunch of bonus tracks that were originally recorded on a PC-88, but never made it into the final game, and sound like classic Yuzo Koshiro. The 2nd CD is the symphonic suite and is an incredible interpretation of the music. It even came with this beautiful signed shikishi that caught me by surprise:

Who says impulse buys are bad?

I heard this earlier today. I HATE IT lol. It’s cool to hear though.

Yeah, I think I prefer the originals except for Fortress, which sounds even more serious and menacing this time around. Gave me goosebumps!

Mix tape! lol

  • I never really played the 16 bit Madden games, but that title theme is way better than it should be. Some of EA’s sports game’s OST’s were great then though so I shouldn’t be too surprised, NHLPA Hockey '93 for example
  • Jewel Master is pretty great
  • Obviously Streets of Rage
  • I’ve never played Midnight Resistance, will have to check it out

As you might know, Advanced Sorcerian came out on Switch this week. I was floored when I heard the opening though, to the point where I genuinely shed a tear…

Koshiro invokes similar feelings in his composition for the introduction to Etrian Odyssey III, which is also one of my favourites

Cross post from the F-Zero thread.

DK’s Musicbox channel on the Youtubes.
One of his pieces randomly popped up in my recommended vids, and his music is amazing.

The guy is obviously a professional musician, producer, or studio operator, because there’s north of $50,000 worth of equipment in these arrangements.
The Minimoog, Juno, Rhodes, organs, wurlitzer, and upright pianos alone cost serious money.

Also he plays really well, and the arrangements are very interesting adaptations and interpretations, not straight covers.

And there’s two covers of one of my favourite pieces of music from a game.
Hornet’s theme from Hollow Knight.

I can’t pick which of these I like better. Maybe the marimba for uniqueness.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve checked out his channel and completely agree, the guys amazing. I really like his Super Mario cover, particularly when it gets to the Ghost House part :+1:

Wow that’s right. Love it. Subbed.

I posted about it briefly in the pick ups thread, but I have to wax lyrical on this Go Sega 60th Anniversary Album.

It. Is. Brilliant.

Hiro has outdone himself with the production on this thing. Everything is so clean and crisp and beautiful to hear. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard better produced versions of all the songs included here. I love Sega music and can put on Radiosega.net and jam all day, but this is something different entirely. It covers years and years of their catalog in one sampling collection that will have you reveling in classic favorites and then blow your mind with insanely awesome songs like the Dreamcast Pre-Order theme! WHAT?! Yeah, that’s right!

Anyway, I think if you like this kind of thing, I do not want to spoil all the gems it contains. Just buy it. It’s not cheap. It took a month for me to receive it from Playasia but I used slow boat shipping so you could get it quicker. I imagine it will be all over YouTube eventually if it isn’t already, but I think you need to hear the CDs to really appreciate the production. Some notes from an interview here…

Feel the Magic XX/XY [Perfect Version] is just Chef’s Kiss… :kissing_heart:

Fighting games had most of the best attract screen music ever.

I was enjoying a bit of Shadow of The Beast on my Amiga 2000, and thought I should record this for you guys. Truly the best 1989 had to offer.

I took the time to sync up the audio from the actual soundtrack with the video so you can enjoy the intro as intended without having to listen to phone-recorded audio quality. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I noticed the link for Shadow of The Beast in the OP was broken. Can @btails update it?

You can listen to the entire soundtrack here.
