What game launched on the most platforms?

Different from having the most ports over a long time, what game launched on the most platforms from the get-go?


A good contender for this is Zoop (1995) which launched on seven platforms:

Genesis/Megadrive, SNES, DOS, Macintosh, PlayStation, Game Gear and Game Boy

(and then later got ports for Saturn and Jaguar the next year)

Hmm, yeah if not counting sports games it would almost certainly be a western game going multiplatform everywhere like that.

I immediately thought of Cool Spot but it looks like it had a staggered rollout over 1.5 years to seven platforms.

If sports games, it looks like Maybe Fifa 14? Not day and date but released on PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita, 360, Wii, 3DS, iOS, Android, and Windows, and two months later also launched on PS4 and Xbone.

Bubble Bobble had a crap load of ports. Easily in to the teens without counting the emulated compilation versions.

Accounting for the iffiy accuracy of old release dates, console Primal Rage is likely up there:

-Arcade launch in 1994
-PC, Game Boy, Game Gear, Genesis, SNES, PlayStation 1 sometimes around August 1995
-3DO and 32X in November 1995
-Jaguar CD in December 1995
-Saturn in June 1996

Rise of the Robots is another game that had a stupid amount of ports (nine releases between November 1994 and May 1995 including the location-tested but ultimately cancelled arcade version)

Yes, but I’m thinking of specifically the most platforms at launch.

2010’s Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands is probably up there, with versions on mobile, browser, all three consoles, and handhelds hitting in May. PC followed in June.

While true, it would be hard to argue that the PS2, GBA and J2ME versions of Sands of Time are the “same game.”

I referenced 2010’s Forgotten Sands, rather than Sands of Time, to be fair.

But even in the case of 2010’s Forgotten Sands there were many bespoke versions of the game.

Would argue that ports not being the same game is just as valid as it represents the era. Making wholly different versions of a game was a necessity when there was massive divergence between platforms available and that generation was the last time it was true in a meaningful way.
