Arcade Game/PCB Collecting: A Thread for Gamers With More Money Than Sense

Yep, I had a party like that at the Aladdins Castle in Peoria a long time ago. Somewhere I still have pictures of it.

As far as I know the Quincy location may be the last remaining location still in operation.

Did you also eat at Lum’s in the Pekin Mall?

Redemption games as in the games that give tickets? Those can occasionally be cool. Not the best, but still some fun to be had.

Lol, no I don’t think I ever did.

So I bought my first cabinet after lots of being let down by various other sellers and went after this SEGA NAOMI Universal Cabinet:

Made what I thought was a good deal and told everything was working fine apart from the Virtua Striker game was displaying some garbled graphics.

And it turned up today. I live on the top floor of an apartment so had to disassemble it in our foyer to bring it up a piece at a time:

Sadly noticed this 29" CRT has burn in. Damn, I was never made aware of this…

In the process of cleaning/re-assembling it now (assuming I recall how to put it back together).

Bummer on the burn in. But it still looks super enjoyable to play on. I don’t think a bit of burn in would bother me if I had a really cool cabinet like that.

Wow, this is so cool! I’ve never seen one of these Naomi units before. Bummer about the screen but a little bit of burn in isn’t usually noticeable while playing. Luckily arcade monitors are still around and you could potentially swap it out if it really bothers you.

This coin box wont open. The locking mech won’t unlatch and i cant seem to get it to open from the rear

Ugh. Yeah, I’d be bummed about that too. It definitely looks like someone has tampered with it before. You may want to ask around a bit over on the arcade projects forum and see if anyone there has advice for you. I wonder if you could just pry that part out and replace it with a good one. I just don’t know if you’d damage the whole front of your unit.

I’ve taken apart and reassembled a few different candies before. The Net City / New Net City / Naomi universal are by far the biggest pains in the butt. The wiring running up the side panels and not having an access hatch to the back of the monitor while it’s completely assembled is annoying.

But once you get past that and have it all set up, it’s a fun and unique looking cabinet. Definitely easier to move around on the floor than any other cabinet!

Your coin box access panel issue will most likely need a good drilling, straight through the center of the lock. You can use a small bit at first for a guide hole, then you probably want to use something about 1/2 to 3/4 the diameter of the inner ring on that lock.

I’ve usually seen that the coin box mechanisms are keyed differently than the other access panels, so replacing that lock and going with a two key system is normal. Or just leave it open, no big deal.

Good luck with the cab! That burnin isn’t bad at all. You’ll be maybe just see it on a pure white screen when you’re playing.

Putting this thing back together is a much bigger job than i thought.

Should have been labeling where screws and nuts came from as i took them out, but was in a rush as was blocking the foyer for the other residents.

Good luck! It’ll be worth it when it is all back together and working the way you want!

I’ve got some Aladdin’s Castle tokens I found in the coin mechanism of my Flicky cab. And it had two UK owners before me!

Wow, that’s crazy that they went across the pond and back. I don’t think there were any Aladdins Castle locations in the UK but I could be wrong.

Yes, the cab was imported from USA to UK by Archer MacLean (Dropzone, Jimmy White’s Snooker, etc). I met him in a pub one night and he was happy to tell me the whole story and even sent me photos afterwards! Lovely guy.

When I work on PCs these days, I often take photos with my phone before I start pulling things apart… just in case.

Yeah i usually would has well but, other residents need access to stairs and such and didn’t know how long it would be in everyone’s way.

Finally re-assembled it and bad news it would seem.

I can hear the CRT degaus, the Naomi fans come on and the marque lamp comes on but no image on screen or sound.

Boooourns!

Tested the Naomi 2 out of cabinet with the stuff i usually use to run my ordinary Naomi and looks dead, no video or audio output from it, just fans going super fast… Not the greatest sign…

So… Lets test my working Naomi out of cabinet but with its video and audio being routed into the cabinet:

I guess its working…

I can’t seem to measure voltage on the connectors coming from the PSU that feeds the Naomi inside the cabinet so I really don’t trust that PSU right now enough to put my working NAOMI inside it.
