Consumer CRT Thread

Post some pics if you can. I’d love to see it

So I picked up a KV-27FV300 this week because my current set (KV-27FS320) is getting really tired, and starting to lose convergence and geometry all over.

I was originally not happy with my new FV300, but after playing around with it a bunch in the menu, and the service menu, I am really happy with the result.

Interestingly, the fabled FV310 series is known for having a voltage regulator that helps with the bloom in the reds and whites, and I found out today that this FV300 also has the same setting!

Anyway, here are some shots from my phone:

Does anyone know much about the Sony KV-AR25M31? It’s an Oceania model that looks very similar to the FV 310. It has a component input.

I spent some more time tweaking my 310 last weekend. I’m still not getting it to where I’d really like it. I’ll share some more pics later this week.

I remember you mentioning the FS320 had pretty low hours on it about a year ago, you must be a gaming machine if you are wearing out a tube that fast!

I wish… I haven’t used it that much, so I was really surprised when it started to go.

Wow, looks phenomenal.

Oh wow, that’s troubling. Hopefully it’s something fixable!

I’m really worried about CRTs getting old. I suppose having plenty of sets from the 80s in good shape should mean the 2000s-era sets are good for at least another 20 years, but who knows. I’ll be a very sad gamer if I have to live in a fully flat-panel world.

Well, this FV300 I got is probably a better set anyway, so I’m not sure if I’ll bother trying to fix it. Ultimately I’d like to find a curved Trinitron with component video (there’s only one model), or a JVC D-Series set and just run with that.

I personally think the slightly better picture of the flat sets is lost with the geometry issues.

I’m close to this opinion. I have a 32 in, though and I love the size. It’s a damn IMAX of a CRT

Finally FINALLY found the service manual PDF for the 310. Maybe I just suck at Googling but I couldn’t find it for anything. An old GAF thread led me there. Here’s the link if any poster or future lurker wants it:

Thanks, this is incredibly helpful!

Isn’t this the same manual?

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/829683/Sony-Trinitron-Kv-27fv310.html#manual

2nd search result, lol. Some of the data in the tables are all jumbled when viewing in a web browser but show up fine when you download the pdf. Manualslib.com is my first check for any TV service manual (consumer or PVM/BVM).

Yeah manualslib is great!

Got this for free and RGB modded it:

KV-20ts29 from 1993

That was my problem. I didnt download and jumbled text threw me off.

We have a 20" model from this line sitting at work. How hard was it to mod?

It’s really easy compared to most because there is a closed caption board thats removable and theres a socket with all the pins you need to tap into rgb. osd works perfect too.

heres a thread from the shmups forum: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=56155&start=681
scroll down a bit the tv in the post is kv-20tr23, but it has the same internals as kv-20ts29.
note he used a scart audio breakout adapter for sync, I soldered a wire to composite video for sync and didnt use a breadboard mess. I’ll post some pictures of the inside later.

heres some pics of the inside:
