Hey, thanks @Peltz ! Plenty more on the way. They’re a lot of fun to put together.
I recently wrapped up @DaveLong ’s CDX recap and new laser installation! This one was challenging but also a lot of fun.
Good job! I have to replace my CDX dead lens as well, so I’d appreciate if you can send the link of the seller. Too many dodgy sellers out there. Thanks!
You bet. The one that worked was this eBay seller from Hong Kong. It was branded as an actual Sanyo laser pickup.
The one that didn’t work was from a seller in Chicago.
Thanks! Gonna order one shortly.
That color combo is cool!
I thought so too. Looked really good in person. Those Prestige buttons feel really nice too.
I just wish retrosix didn’t have a shady reputation since they seem to make good quality shells. Don’t like how they had to change the branding on the stuff as well, but can’t really complain about that.
Oh interesting I don’t know anything about that. Please elaborate.
A variety of claims from multiple people over time. Still their “prestige” shells are pretty high quality.
I’ve also seen this in an interview where the guy says that he “likes his work to do the talking” and then went on to bash a load of his competitors. Not cool.
Ugh, that’s too bad. I didn’t know anything about it. I’ve always bought through HandheldLegend.com and they carry a fair amount of RetroSix stuff. Retrogaming is such a small community people need to be better than that.
I wouldn’t judge you, or the person who the mod work was for since I would also use their stuff if it was what I felt the best option for me. I only didn’t because I didn’t like their off branding at the time. Which is funny that that was my problem since that was a necessary change for legal reasons and not any of the moral objections I have to the way they do things.
Yeah, It’d be interesting to see where they are with things these days. Definitely sounds like they’ve had some real issues in the past. Hopefully they’ve learned from them.
I’d also love to hear good alternatives to high quality shells/buttons if people know them.
For GBA the latest funnyplaying ones are good. Still have the “Gameboy” branding as well iirc. For whatever reason the clear ones from anywhere are the highest quality, something about the plastics used for them, but the standard funnyplaying ones aren’t much worse. Retrosix prestige shells have a nice feel to them but I stay away from painted in general since it will wear and they have had quality control issues. Boxypixel makes a really good expensive shell, and about the only good quality SP shell, but are expensive. Also take a bit more effort to install. Know you are familiar with them though.
Think there are a few new GBC shells popping up that accommodate the latest good screen that is slightly larger than stock. Can’t speak about the quality but I’m interested.
I finally got around to uploading all of @Radarscope1’s boxy pixel build videos! This one was a huge challenge but a lot of fun to put together. Parts 3,4, and 5 are now on the playlist.
I recently wrapped up a GCDual install that I did to prepare for a WiiDual mod install for @apathetic This one was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.
Really good work as always.
Thanks! I think Dan designed this mod really well. It all really made sense the way it went together.
