Bethesda has shadowdropped Doom + Doom II, a bundle of Doom and Doom II. It’s free for people who own either Doom or Doom II on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation or Switch.
It adds a new campaign and lets you download user curated mods, and has online deathmatch and co-op.
This reminds me of the options in the emulator in the SNES Mini which were available via hacking, it allowed overclocking the Super FX, which allowed Doom to run surprisingly well, certainly much much better than the original.
Played death match and some co-op last night. It’s pure chaos with so many people in the games but was fun to check out.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually played multiplayer Doom before so the chaos might not be unique to this version. Growing up we had Macs, so I definitely had done some Marathon Trilogy networking (over the Apple talk port) but never had much to do with the original Doom.
