I bought a bootleg wireless N64 controller that came with a USB dongle on a whim for MiSTer core reasonsā€¦ and the controller is pretty dang decent!

The N64 core is great. Iā€™ve considered getting an HDMI mod for my real console but I think this is probably all Iā€™ll ever need.

If those DE-10 Nano clones become plentiful Iā€™ll feel pretty dang good about the preservation of the opportunity to easily play all these games in an acceptable fashion on modern displays! And theyā€™ll make great gifts even from snobs like myself!

Those Saffun clones are pretty solid, I recommend getting the wireless 2.4g version is you can find it, a little less input lag than the wired ones.

I think my DE-10 is on the way out. It was plugged in during a strong power surge a couple years ago (had to replace USB board and RAM after), and it has never done well with USB power or controller pairing since, despite trying multiple PSUs and USB hubs.

If I were to want to replace my DE-10 only, should I get another from Mouser or is there a lower cost clone that can be a drop in replacement these days?

Is MiSTer Pi a drop-in replacement? You could check it out. One issue with them is they are in high demand so you can pretty much only buy them through a preorder. I bought one but it hasnā€™t arrived yet.

I do like the look of that system. I have a custom case I made so Iā€™m hoping for something with the DE-10 form factor, but I may just go this toute anyway.

Iā€™ll probably wait to learn more about the video connection options but the price is right!

I donā€™t think you can. If you are OK with being patient, you could just wait for the next preorder to go up, but if itā€™s an urgent need you should probably just buy a DE-10. Another issue with the MiSTer Pi is the preorder came with a case and RAM and IO boards and stuff, so it is more than you need. It ends up costing about $100 more than the solo MiSTer Pi board which it doesnā€™t look like there was a preorder for. I canā€™t tell 100% though.

Thanks for checking on that. I think Iā€™ll probably wait for the next preorder. My current DE-10 still works fairly well, itā€™s mostly the fact that it wonā€™t recognize my SSD with all my CD games. Iā€™ve been thinking I could just get a bigger SD card, but I donā€™t like the the or the of having compromised hardware.
