Nintendo Gamecube |OT| Nintendo's Original Console on the Go

Finished Time Trial Coins

Interestingly if press L to choose an alternate board design at the menu it just goes to the next screen.

Is this how it should be? edit: yes, when you get to the slopes the board is indeed different.

Gates next.

Extreme gates putting up a nice challenge!

I like it a lot!

The vibe for this is very similar to the game I’m making, Daily Driver, with collectible coins, gates, time trials, etc.

gc-loaders are back in stock in a week and I’m all like take my money.jpg…but now

Yeah been looking at the new one, better SD support again.

Hopefully someone can come up with some loader software which you can boot to faster? There’s a mod that can do it but ideally booting straight to the SD card ISO list, wherever it is.

Happy anniversary to the little purple cube that could.

(Gif is also from a movie a couple of years older than the 'Cube)

I think it’s my second favourite console? Maybe third? Maybe I was just the right age and stage of life that the games seemed the most magical, but Wind Waker and Metroid Prime were just a whole other level beyond what had come before. Also REmake, F-Zero GX, RE4, Viewtiful Joe…

One annoying thing with Gamecube is I sold a few PAL games and got Japanese copies due to PAL games not having progressive scan and i was using a Framemeister to Plasma.

But now you can easily force every game to 480p, and I’m mostly using a 480i PVM for it anyway…

Oh well just a few to re-buy, I kept most of them.

I had a similar experience recently. I’ve had a PAL copy of Mario Party 4 for a while (won it in a cheap auction) which was pretty much useless amd I’ve been planning to sell it to finance an NTSC copy as those games are super expensive. In that time I softmodded my Wii but it never occured to me til recently to launch the game with Nintendont. To my amazement, there it was, running, and in 480p and widescreen. Felt even better because it’s one of the few games I couldn’t play off USB due to compatibility issues too.

You could run them in 480p even before Nintendon’t, I always used CGF loader and it allowed forcing it.

But yeah, too late for some of my games. Probably have about 10 to get again.

I bought one of these Old Skool digital controllers about a month ago.

I don’t have a real HORI controller to compare to but having used it quite a bit (mostly on Switch with a gbros adapter) I can say that I am really impressed with this controller. The buttons and dpad especially feel great.

I had a couple nitpicks with the start/select and L/R but I don’t think they’re big deals, just the feel isn’t where I’d expect a SNES controller to be. Other than that I felt compelled to sand off the ugly Old Skool logo but I think I would have been better off covering it with a sticker – looks good with a sticker in that spot I sanded down at least.

If you’ve been on the fence IMO just get this controller.

The original Hori wasn’t perfect either. I got one way back when and never used it as it really didn’t feel like a SNES pad (and not just button placement). Managed to get a SNES to GNC adapter and have used a SNES pad ever since.

Hey guys I just installed a GCLoader and the Swiss menu looks like this on my CRT using Bitfunx component cables:

The Gamecube boot logo and system menu look normal and perfectly clear but the video gets all distorted when starting Swiss. Anyone know what the deal is?
Edit: Looks like Swiss defaults to 480p? Going to try plugging it into an HDTV tomorrow and see if I can switch it to 480i.

Yeah your TV can’t do 480p

Right on. Watching some old videos it looks like I can probably even navigate blind to find the Video Output setting. Something like B → Right → Down x4 → then tap A until I can see something lol. If the menus have changed I might land on a totally different setting though.

Anyway I’m excited to get this up and running! Today I finished up installing all the mods I wanted. GCLoader, fan, and a battery holder.

Swiss has a config file on the sd card you can modify to change the default resolution.

Also it’s been a while since I’ve done this so I’m not sure if current builds of Swiss support it but you used to be able to hold L trigger to force 480i on boot.

I have a PAL console and game collection too. I’m guessing you still need the expensive as component cables even if you have Swiss forcing it to 480p?
I have an RGB scart cable that goes to an OSSC for my GameCube so I assume that wouldn’t work with 480p?

Yes the GameCube cannot output 480p via RGB.

It can do 480i so is good for most CRTs though.

Thanks ya’ll! I ended up just swapping in some composite cables, changed video output from Auto to 480i, updated to GCLoader 2.0 Beta firmware to save settings, and Bob’s your uncle.

Rocking and rolling.

The component cables should work just fine now you’ve swapped the settings around. Worth a try.

This is awesome… I need to man up and put down the money to do this. I have a gb player just sitting there not being used because I haven’t set it up yet.
