I’m around 600gb just from purchases from PSN, but I was really into keeping up with PSN sales for PS3/PS1 games a few years ago.
If I were to install CFW and dump disc games onto it that would likely add another 200gb or more very fast.

Most PS3 games are like 5-8GB. GTA5 is like 20.
It is annoying that the Yakuza games are like 22GB, they really don’t seem to justify it, compared to GTA5.
Now I’m curious how many games you have.=p
64 digital PS3 games including a mix of smaller indie-type games, HD Remakes, and full releases
11 digital PS2 Classics for PS3
48 digital PS1 Classics for PS3
19 physical PS3 games
Total = 142 games
I’m not all-in on PlayStation though, I also have 19 physical and 42 digital Xbox 360 games.
PS1/PS2 are kinda blurry on it right?
PS1 it depends, some are some aren’t but the bigger problem imo is any title that uses the 256 pixel wide mode in the “non upscaledl” mode has uneven scaling to 480p. I mostly got those PS1 games to play on Vita and now PSPgo but options are nice especially with how easy it is to transfer virtual memory cards around.
PS2 looks very nice in the 480p mode but there’s a bit of deinterlacing lag. I tried outputting over analog to a crt and it looks identical to a real ps2, but I’ve been told there’s some lag no matter what. The fully emulated PS2 on PS3 is something I consider to be an underrated achievement on Sony’s part though so I liked getting some of the more interesting titles on there.
If you have an OSSC or a similar scaler and a PSP, the PS1 classic games look amazing in 240p and better than the 480i of the PS3 (which isn’t bad itself). Feel like you’re playing on an OG PS1 through RGB.
I need to take a screenshot of my PS3. I wish I could put a 2TB hard drive in it.
Oh yeah I have an OSSC as well, got it back in January.
That does seem nice I might have to consider it but the upgrade process does sound tedious. My CFW PS3 Slim with a 600gb stock drive takes like 20 seconds to let me view my full list of games and then if I launch the game too fast instead of taking another 20 seconds or so then my PS3 crashes and I have to go through the drive recovery check next time I boot up.
I guess it’s harder on CFW? On stock firmware all I did was backup to an external hard drive, wait 13 hours for that to complete, swap drive, reinstall system software, restore from external hard drive, wait 10 hours for that to complete.
I mean they are two generations old so they feel “retro” to me…but they don’t “look retro” graphically…so it’s really hard to definitely come down on any particular decision
I can go to a pawn shop and buy a 360 for $30. That just means they’re outdated, not retro yet.
Once they’re retro, they’ll be worth $150 again.
Likely most of you are aware of the PS3 store debacle by now. It looks like update/patch downloads are impacted now. I’ve been putting all my discs in to check, and to download what I can. So far (10 games) Resistance 3 is the only one that doesn’t download an update of my games more listed in this link:
Reference thread on Era:
I’m still a little confused around reading about this earlier today. I’m guessing this is for games who hosted their update data as PS Store download files, but the majority of games which patch on game boot via PSN will be fine?
Still not ideal, of course, and it makes it difficult to identify which games these are. Or where to draw the line between a patch and significant content updates hosted for free on the PS Store, Motorstorm Apocalypse is the latter. Presumably a regular PSN patch activates that content as well.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on but I don’t think it’s worth panicking yet. It’s possible this issue is resolved in the near future.
FWIW I set up a new PS3 a few months ago and updated everything, surprisingly few titles even had updates and when they did it usually wasn’t the day-1 patch-it-or-unusable-game style you see more of these days.
Bingo. The consoles were on the market for so long that by the end of their respective generations many of the defining features of modern video games had been established on them.
Didn’t help that the most successful console going into the next generation was really just Xbox 360.5, with Wii U and Xbox One’s attempts to redefine gaming going down poorly with the mass market.
What a mess this has become! Not having updates/patches for various games would be crazy!
This is why I don’t really get all the people thinking physical media lasts forever and compare it the 8 and 16 bit days. It just isn’t the same. Once those servers are gone you will have to result in hacking your console and patching things yourself.
Games are released more and more in need of day one patches, in the future you are left with a beta 1.0 on a worthless disc.
Damn I need to go through my games one by one then. Have a few dozen I haven’t even tried yet, been mostly playing 1 or 2 games.
