Don’t have a retrotink 2x but a 480i bob-deinterlaced image works fine on a PC CRT via OSSC. 480p is accepted with no issues on a PC CRT.
Retrotink 2x is HDMI only, right? In that case you’ll need a HDMI to VGA dac.
I’m tweaking my FV310. But I don’t have any good way to get the 240p test suite on my consoles (no everdrives). Is there an NES, PS1 or PS2 game that has a menu screen or something that would work reasonably well for geometry? I’ll be able to use Genesis and SNES games once I get some new component cables.
Would the brick pattern inside one of the palaces in Zelda 2 on the NES work? It’s straight horizontal and vertical lines.
Oh. I always thought it has VGA output. Maybe I’m thinking about the old OSSC version. Will an HDMI to VGA converter add lag?
Did the earlier Retrorink support VGA?
Some DACs do scale and could introduce some lag but usually, the ones you find at your most retailers won’t do any scaling and therefore shouldn’t add any lag.
This is the one VGP sell:
I use this one currently:
Keep an eye out for reviews mentioning black crush or grey blacks/whitewash when deciding which one to get.
Not found an absolutely perfect DAC as these tend to show varying degrees of ‘jitter’ or ‘micro-jitter’ that come from the analogue signal of the console, I’ve tested the more expensive options like the HDFury III, and you can see it there too so I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on getting one. I’m hoping the DAC announced by Analogue awhile ago will be tuned to be better able to handle the variety of console signals. Usually, the jitter is hard to notice or not even visible and isn’t something that I notice unless I press my face to the screen, not a huge issue imo.
Do you have a slim ps2? You can do the swap trick pretty easy with that one. You can also make a freeMcboot memory card and load it that way.
I have a fat one but have been thinking of picking up a slim. Can I do the free Mcboot card on any model?
Yup but you’ll need to do the “swap trick” if you don’t have a mod chip and because of that it’s much easier to do with a slim
I’ve remembered my Wii has the home brew channel installed on it. How easy is it to use that? I bought the console used but have never touched the home brew channel for any reason
If you stick with the fat PS2, it’s really easy to get a mod kit for the network adapter so it will take a SATA hard drive, and with freemcboot you can play games from it.
There’s a good chance it’s already completely set up. If you open that channel and see that it has USB Loader GX installed, then you can load up your Wii backups on a USB stick, or even an external USB hard drive.
Wii Backup Manager is the same of the software that you’ll need to use to put the games on the USB device. It can also scan for cover art for you, and a few other things.
Typically your cover art would go into an SDCard in the front of the wii.
Totally use the Wii. It’s real easy to put Homebrew on it and the 240p test suite there also does 480p
Not sure if you saw this, apathetic, but HDMI is now an option for launch Wii’s.
Wow, good looking out. Thanks for that.
since im loving my trinotron & HDTV setup right now, my XRGB has been boxed for a while & while i know my precious SDTV won’t live forever (…), i’m quietly debating selling the framemeister for as much as i can get towards a Neo SD Pro, as i’d get a lot more use out of that these days. i’d need to do some research here on the OSSC (sp?), i’ve realized over the years that i do value lower input lag over graphic options.
that said, tried out the Neo Geo i picked up in osaka tonight! i realize i’d had this cable from retro_console_accessories years back, nearly certain i bought the one for XRGB use (rather than my current SCART to component converter setup), and ran into two issues:
- blue and green are clearly showing, but not red
- no sound! i’ve got it plugged in the front but yeah, nothin’
how much do you guys think is the result of said cable? i’m planning on asking a local friend if he can do the RGB bypass (i’m told its really worth it) so maybe that’d clean up the first one, no idea about the 2nd issue though.
also: which cable do y’all think i should go with for this setup?
What Neo Geo do you own? Mine was a consolized one from JnX that has a custom SCART pin arrangement that won’t work with standard Neo Geo SCART cables.
it’s a japanese AES!
so yeah, which one from that site do you think i should go with? hoping she restocks soon!
I’d think retro console accessories should be able to help. Tell her about your issue and see what she thinks.
